Re: Evolution creates a politcal Revolution...WHY?

I've been thinking somewhat about this question. I've been pondering: if we are here solely on naturalistic reasons, then how do humans conceive God. All we should be able to conceive is the natural world. Sure, we have brains with imaginations, but our imaginations are or would be limited to what t...

Re: The problem of natural evil - not a problem in Eden?

Paul. As I said in my second post. Let the atheist ask you: why did God create a world where pain and suffering occurs by natural causes. Even simpler, why did God make things tough sometime. Why does a child starve during a famine. Why does cancer happen. How are you going to answer the atheist who...

Re: The problem of natural evil - not a problem in Eden?

Thank you so much for that reply Jac. I'm going to let that soak in and give it thought, but I believe I can get on board with that explanation. Because its a simpler explanation than mine, its preferred. And thank you for not trying to trivialize suffering. I agree that this tactic really turns off...

Re: New Stephen Hawking big bang article

Hawking's attitude about God sitting around creating hell for people who say the things he's saying, is kind of scary. I think that his comment about God is at least somewhat revealing - he is issuing a back-handed, sarcastic insult, both to God and to those who believe in Him. quote] Yes exactly. ...

Re: The problem of natural evil - not a problem in Eden?

Hi Ryan I just wanted to point out that "natural evil" assumes that death is a bad thing, in the Christian world view death is merely a change of states of being. The atheist see this as a huge moral obligation on God, but it only holds weight because they assume that death is a finality,...

Re: The problem of natural evil - not a problem in Eden?

I wonder if this illustration will help make my point. Think of all the childrens books that show Adam with all the animals being named. Adam is often petting a lion with a nasty looking snake dangling from a tree nearby among other animals. A lions instinct is to eat us. But the lion didn't. Why no...

Re: The problem of natural evil - not a problem in Eden?

The atheist has no ground to stand on to ask why God didn't create a world without these things since there is no evidence that a world can exist without them. Death is part of the natural circle of life for the atheist and he has no grounds to postulate a universe without death since such is non-o...

Re: The problem of natural evil - not a problem in Eden?

The atheist will say, why did an all knowing, all powerful, all good god create natural events that can cause pain and suffering. Showing that those natural events can occur without pain and suffering some of the time doesn't satisfy the question. You said it yourself with the animals, sometimes the...

Re: The problem of natural evil - not a problem in Eden?

Well: Romans 5:12 Romans 8:22 IMO, with Man's fall, Man lost touch with God and His role as steward of creation and all of creation has suffered for it. The second verse is interesting. I'll read it more thoroughly later. The problem I have with man perverting creation such as you described (bolded...

Re: New Stephen Hawking big bang article

Hawking's attitude about God sitting around creating hell for people who say the things he's saying, is kind of scary. God gave him such a mind and he has such a stubborn sense to him, like it's right in front of his face, yet he can't admit there's a god. The article discussing all the people tryin...

Re: The problem of natural evil - not a problem in Eden?

What on earth is "natural evil"? For a natural event to be "evil" it must CONSCIOUSLY do what it KNOWS to be wrong. Hey I didn't pick the term :econfused: It doesn't really make sense, the term, because you're right, how can nature have an evil moral conscience. If it helps, sub...

The problem of natural evil - not a problem in Eden?

Hi All, I introduced myself on the chat. I'm a Christian, and I don't personally struggle with the problem of evil. But I do find that the problem of evil is the most difficult athiestic/agnostic argument to argue against. And I hear it a lot. I also think the problem of evil is something that genui...
