Re: Evolving from Simple to Complex?
I hope Kurieou didn't feel vaguely insulted at all, especially as I agreed with him in several ways. No doubt he's capable of letting me know if he feels so, or has risen above it. And my point about actually reading a paper was about the press release in The Scientist, which referred to the Researc...

Re: Evolving from Simple to Complex?
This is quite an old paper (from 2007), so hardly news, but it is perfectly true that some fairly simple organisms have huge genomes, compared to more complex organisms which have much smaller ones. The "top ten" for genome size include plants, amoebae and fish, and they're all much bigger...

Re: Are we really 99 Percent the Same as Chimps?
Philip is quite right, of course. But. In this tiny corner of man's intellectual exploration, in a website called "God and Science" in a forum called "God and Science" in a thread called "Are we really 99 Percent the Same as Chimps?" I don't think it too extraneous to e...

Re: Are we really 99 Percent the Same as Chimps?
Even bananas surprisingly still share about 60% of the same DNA as humans! It's not really surprising, once you consider that the most complex part of a living organism is not really the interaction between the cells, staggeringly complex though that is, but the intracellular chemistry, which is mu...

Re: Are we really 99 Percent the Same as Chimps?
Evidently, our DNA is not 99% the same as chimps, that is, if 80% of our genome has purpose, where only about 2% was compared because it was previously thought the other 98% was non-coding junk. Not evidently. As we compare more and more of the "junk" DNA, we find that it too is very simi...

Re: Are we really 99 Percent the Same as Chimps?
Cornelius Hunter once posted on this board in the past, was great to have when he did. In any case, just came across an article he recently wrote on his blog: But, But, But … We’re 98% Similar to the Chimp! Not. In keeping with his anti-evolutionist persuasion, Hunter is as selective in his referen...

Re: Are we really 99 Percent the Same as Chimps?
I don't think either of us will get much further along these lines, so if you don't mind this will be my last post on the subject. I understand exactly what your scientists are saying, and exactly where, and by how much, they demonstrate the similarities and differences between chimp and human DNA. ...

Re: The lake of fire?
I think this idea came from Catholics. Eh? I'm a Catholic, and it certainly didn't come from me! I think people forget that for 1500 years the only form of Christianity that existed was what we would now call Catholic, and the rich tradition of metaphor and mythology that grew to surround the under...

Re: Shroud of Turin - Summary of Evidence for its Authenticity
Possibly, but that's not the point of this particular argument, which is that God does not need Physics to perform miracles.

Re: Are we really 99 Percent the Same as Chimps?
It's called backing my view with more than my opinion. It is nice to chat, but I find it a waste of time to go around in circles using vagaries and opinion alone. Really? then it's good to read some proper research to see whether it really does back your opinion. The Myth of 1%. Well, I think we've...

Re: Shroud of Turin - Summary of Evidence for its Authenticity
Yes, you could indeed look at the videos Kurieou links to in the OP, but do please also read my reviews of them. If you want some kind of balance, that is. If not, then by all means ignore what I've written. Lots of people do!

Re: Are we really 99 Percent the Same as Chimps?
Thanks for the unnecessary information (which isn't all accurate). Just an FYI, I'm a nurse as I'm a scientist. Background in cardiac trauma among others, with unlimited access to scientific journals that are used for evidence based practice and best practice (you'd think they are the same, but the...
