Re: Speaking in tongues

1 Corinthians 13:1 If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but do not have love, I have become a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I have the gift of prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge; and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am noth...

Re: Speaking in tongues

Romans 12:4 For just as we have many members in one body and all the members do not have the same function, 5 so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. 6 Since we have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, each of us is to exercise them ac...

Re: Speaking in tongues

As a sort of introductory note before moving on to passages from the Epistles, one of the arguments used by some who dismiss Pentecostal-charismatic teaching is that they ”just” “have” the books of Acts and 1 Corinthians. The “reasoning” behind this dismissal is: Acts speaks of the earliest days of ...

Acts 21:3 When we came in sight of Cyprus, leaving it on the left, we kept sailing to Syria and landed at Tyre; for there the ship was to unload its cargo. 4 After looking up the disciples, we stayed there seven days; and they kept telling Paul through the Spirit not to set foot in Jerusalem. ... 8...

Re: Speaking in tongues

Acts 8:4 Therefore, those who had been scattered went about preaching the word. 5 Philip went down to the city of Samaria and began proclaiming Christ to them. 6 The crowds with one accord were giving attention to what was said by Philip, as they heard and saw the signs which he was performing. ......

Re: Speaking in tongues

Acts 10:44 While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who were listening to the message. 45 All the circumcised believers who came with Peter were amazed, because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles also. 46 For they were hearing them...

Re: Speaking in tongues

Acts 2:1 When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. 2 And suddenly there came from heaven a noise like a violent rushing wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 And there appeared to them tongues as of fire distributing themselves, and they reste...

Re: Speaking in tongues

I've been away for about a week ... preparing a more thorough coverage of what Scripture has to say on this topic. My thinking is that if it's worth doing, it's worth doing with a certain amount of care, Consequently, I haven't read in this thread for almost a week. If any of what follows duplicates...

Re: Speaking in tongues

Speaking in tongues: whenever I hear that, I think ''FRUITCAKE!'' 8-}2 ...because that is generally what it is. I've only been in one church where tongues took place - in New Orleans - and I found it quite humorous. Society as a whole seems to be getting nuttier and nuttier as time goes by. FL OK ....

Re: Speaking in tongues

Also there is two camps of thought in all this as well. One is that tongues of Pentecost was in other foreign languages and the ability to speak in tongues is the ability to speak in other human languages without learning. The other camp is that is it speaking in an unknown language - the language ...

Re: Where Did All These Pentecostals and Charismatics Come F

PaulSacramento wrote:IIRC, they were an off-shoot of the Adventis movements that ended with the "great disappointment" in the 19" century (1844).
You're either thinking of the modern Seventh Day Adventists or Jehovah's witnesses, both of whom have Adventist roots.

Where Did All These Pentecostals and Charismatics Come From? Mark DeVine TheGospelCoalition.org 12:01 AM CT Yet Pentecostals and charismatics remain mysterious even to other Protestants, despite the fact that the origins of the contemporary Pentecostal movement are well known. Re: Is this guy teaching works salvation?

This centers on a rather ill-defined "boundary" - what we do and what God does in us . Paul touched on it pretty directly in Philippians 2:13: "for it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure." But he didn't say exactly where the boundary line ...

Re: Bible Secrets Revealed on History Channel

FWIW, I corrected my quote tag error in my post above , corrected a couple of typos, and couldn't resist adding a bit more at the end. They often purport things to be established fact that anyone with just cursory knowledge of the subject matter knows to be wrong. I won't pretend my knowledge of the...

Re: Bible Secrets Revealed on History Channel

Here is a good review of this presentation and it clearly points out many of it's obvious discrepancies. http://boldlionblog.wordpress.com/2013/ ... -revealed/User avatar DRDS It was enlightening to read the review and I noticed a ring of truth in the article where I felt a certain animosity and ne...
