Re: My Daughter Will Be Traveling ...

Thanks! I've been remiss. She arrived safe and is booking down on the language. Last year she celebrated July 4th in Africa and a week later a country's first Independence Day. She celebrated this year with pizza ... I didn't ask her about the provenance of the cheese ... which may not have been bov...

Re: Gifts of the Spirit ... continued ....

Hmmmm ... this being at once a continuation of a thread and a new thread, maybe I'll lay some cards on the table to provide some broad context. The New Testament has a couple of lists of spiritual gifts, in Romans 12 and 1 Corinthians 12 (respectively): 12:6 And we have different gifts according to ...

Re: judah as a tributary

Israel's (the northern kingdom) last years had a similarly chaotic kingship - multiple "dynasties", some lasting only a week or two. Governance got/get messy and ugly when nations fall apart.

Re: Can the future be changed, Scrooge asked?

Don't wish to detract from the discussion above, but Scrooge's questioning was less simple than, "Can the future be changed?" From the relevant part of A Christmas Carol : "Before I draw nearer to that stone to which you point," said Scrooge, "answer me one question. Are the...

Re: judah as a tributary

I've been reading of this time in the books of Jeremiah and Ezekiel, so I'll attempt a chronological account (using 2 Kings; 2 Chronicles 36 is parallel, but much less detailed; I also drew from Jeremiah 51) of what took place: * Pharaoh Necho crossed Judah while going to Carchemish to fight against...

Re: Oh no not another Trinity Thread!!!

My point was to make the gift of tongues a gift more than any other is, IMO, quite wrong. Also that speaking in tongues doesn't mean "divine language" but in the tongues of the nations. As I said, the "greatest" gift is the one needed for the situation at hand. So I don't regard...

Re: Oh no not another Trinity Thread!!!

Thanks for the info on Oneness folk, and for helping me adjust my views of them. I think that the speaking in tongues things is one of the worst abuses of the HS there is. I have serious issues with the whole "charismatic" movement that has people acting like the HS has "possessed&quo...

Re: Listen to young atheists

One thing in the article that caught my attention was that some of these young atheists cited the lack of a distinctly biblical-Gospel message in their churches (how I understood what they said). This may be at least part of the people side of the shrinkage of the several theologically liberal "...

Re: Oh no not another Trinity Thread!!!

It's not an essential doctrine (in my view), but it does help us put a lot of pieces together that would otherwise be foggy. I think, then, that while it is admirable on some level to simply wash one's hands of all speculation and just lean in trust on Christ, it is more admirable still to get one'...

My Daughter Will Be Traveling ...

... to Asia, leaving early this coming Wednesday AM. She is with Youth With A Mission, and is preparing to move there (I'm intentionally being non-specific). This trip will be for a couple of months.

Yeppers! "Judge not that ye be not judged," would have to be high on the list (if there were such a list).

Re: Should this lynching victim be blamed?

Argggghhhh! Why do I come into such discussions just before leaving for work?! I'll try to make this brief ... As Creator, God designed us, according to His purpose. He knows that purpose. He knows our "design specifications". So God has the power/authority to do what he does. He also has ...

Re: Holy Spirit experiences

So, Silver,if you seek to launch out into Holy Spirit experience, I suggest reading all of 1 Cor 12 and 1 Cor 14:1-30 and answer the question as why Paul inserted the LOVE chapter, 1 Cor 13, between the operational gifts/admonishment chapters? Answer is simple: 1 Cor 13:1-3 tells what people do wit...

Re: Oh no not another Trinity Thread!!!

phpBB lacks a "Thank You" feature for great posts; but it does have this appropriate smilie: :amen: CT ! I'm far from averse to thinking on the nature of God, but the over-arching purpose in life is our relationship with God. And that's very personal and experiential. Relationship does not...
