Re: Sunday Assembly: a church for unbelievers

And I asked 'Why?' As in => "Why? There are a great many things which have (And are) coming into existence now without the 'Will to create' helping them manifest." He was only referring to the first cause. The first cause, by definition, is outside of time and space. Possessing a will all...

Re: A Public Apology

Get Frank Turek's book and you will know. I think I do know, but I will not be purchasing his book. I googled his name, and the auto-complete suggestion was "frank turek is an idiot" I have better things to do than read the writings of an idiot. This also highlights why I thought the orig...

Re: What would God say if he came here and why.

Right, OK, so you're sticking with the prejudgment claim then? Interesting. Have I been pre punished, or just pre judged? This leads deeply in to free will. :( Free will is indeed a very complicated subject to meditate on. There are plenty of more explicit verses on the subject, though, such as Rom...

Re: Fundamentals of Science

Arthur, what do you research in? Which field of physics? I do theoretical/computational astrophysics. In the past I worked on supernova remnants, but the future is pretty wide open, which is partly why I like astro research so much as it is still possible to have a pretty diverse set of interests. ...

Re: What would God say if he came here and why.

It's perfectly fine to have both past and present tense used in the same sentence. Like: I am eating dinner right now; he has already eaten. True, but again, your example does not match the original quote. A more accurate example would be: I am eating dinner right now and am enjoying it, he is eati...

Re: What would God say if he came here and why.

RE: Anyone who believes in him is not judged. But anyone who does not believe is judged already. What you said, is not what the above says. What you said is coherent, the above statements are not. It is incoherent because it uses two different points in time to describe the same action. One being s...

Re: Fundamentals of Science

Hi Dodger, Here is the post which motivated me to start this thread: Specifically, this bit: I am very sad that you hold faith in such a high regard, that you have concluded that scientists base their work on it. If theorists had faith in the physical laws, they would not doubt them, and they would...

Re: Fundamentals of Science

Could you link to or give context to that quote? I don't really see his or your point without the context. I'm sorry, I don't understand what you're asking for. Please be more specific, and I will do my best to provide the information you're looking for. I asked for an example of someone displaying...

Re: Fundamentals of Science

I think Seeker's post is a perfect example. I could find another one if you really want me to. Seeker: I hope I have helped your education, and not hindered it. I encourage you to get good grades, and follow your curriculum to the best of your ability. I'd also encourage you to pursue science furth...

It is an inherent property of young people to rebel against the older generation. This is not a modern phenomena either. I think it was Dostoyevsky who said something like the youth had no culture so to fill that void they rebelled against the culture of their fathers.

Re: Religion vs. Science?

Well, I thought I was clear, but let me rephrase. I do not credit my experience as a reliable method of determining objective truth, and I hope no one else does either. Ah, I see...so you only credit other's experience as determining objective truth? Science is based off of experience. If theoretic...

Re: Eternity

I like to think of it more as timeless than eternal. We will just kind of "be" without any concept of time (which is often linked to the increase of entropy and decay). You read my mind! And welcome to the board, TheArtfulDodger. :D Thanks, I'm glad to join :D. I've been a long time lurke...

Hey Rick! You're right, they're not 100% free, and as I said, Cuba is not 100% communist. It is free in the sense that you do not have to directly pay for the services provided. For example I haven't been able to earn a doctorate in philosophy yet, because I do not have enough money to pay the requ...
