Re: Hello from Canuckster1127
Hi Philip, It looks like you came in 2009. I was active from about early 2006 and then the next 10 years with a few lapses in between and Moderated for a while, while here. I underwent a period of deconstruction and moved away from organized church. I've returned and now am a part of an Anglican Chu...

Re: Facing Your Doubts About God and Faith!
Hi Philip,
I am doing well, thank you. Not all that frozen here right now as we're just entering into winter. A little snow here and there that comes and goes.
I hope you're doing well?
Barton

Re: Facing Your Doubts About God and Faith!
Doubts are human. Anyone who isn't willing to face and express doubts as part of our human condition, is seriously missing something in my opinion. The opposite of faith is often defined as doubt. I don't believe that to be true. As I see it, the opposite of faith is dogmatic certainty that is rigid...

Hello from Canuckster1127
Hello all, I'm an old member who used to be a moderator and participant on this board. I haven't been active for several years. Stopping by to say hello and update. I have moved back to Canada (2018) and live in Ottawa now. After a time away from formal church I've become involved in a progressive A...

Start with Scripture?
Some food for thought. Of reformed theologians I find more good nuggets with Tim Keller than many others. We also thought it was important to begin our confession with God rather than with Scripture. This is significant. The Enlightenment was overconfident about human rationality. Some strands of it...

The Gospel isn't a what. It's a who.

Re: Reason for Parables
Thank you for your thoughts. I agree that it seems like a horrendous view of God, which is definitely why it bothered me so much. What you say about there being an immediate context makes a lot of sense and is something that I considered, but I'm trying to be really really careful about falling int...

Re: Reason for Parables
Good thoughts in my opinion. I'm not a Calvinist, nor am I an Arminian. I think both those positions are helpful in understanding things and I also think that even positions that seem diametrically opposed within those two systems can be true at the same time when viewed and understood properly. I t...

Re: Question on faith
All truth is God's truth. Where things get silly, in my opinion, is when people take a particular approach to interpreting Scripture and they take their methodology or the systematic theology derived from it and then equate that with Scripture itself. You get all sorts of silly things when that is d...

Re: Why can`t I hear God?
under attack On November 8, 2012 A.D. the verse of Daniel 11:40 came to fulfillment. There isn't much left til the end of that chapter. October 19, 2012 A.D. is also significant regarding the wreaking of havoc as written in the New Testament Epistles. If one were to interpolate a literal time span ...

Re: Ken Ham and Bill Nye
Didn't watch the debate.
Ken Ham is about the worst representative of creationism that one could ask for in my opinion. He certainly doesn't represent me.
All I really need to say.

Re: Question on faith
I often see people say that God's word says thus and so, so they will have faith in God's word, not in (insert science, man's reasoning, etc). It is presented as that their take on something is solidly backed up by God's words. I wonder if it isnt often that they have faith in themselves, as having...
