Re: Forsaking All

Windy as far as I see it, your sitting in your comfy chair, enjoying the luxury of a computer with first world access to the Internet preaching to others about sacrifice. I think it's a pretty big error to think that because you threw it all in a bucket and divvied it out amongst yourselves that yo...

The issue is not whether Jesus told his disciples to do as he commanded them to do, but whether Jesus told his disciples to teach OTHERS to do as he commanded THEM to do. Can you see the differ...

Re: Forsaking All

There is a passage in which Jesus is asked EXPLICITLY what works we are to do that are pleasing to God, ) so that we may work the works of God.Jesus replies explicitly also: John 6: Words to the People 26 Jesus answered them and said, “Truly, truly, I say to you, you seek Me, not because you saw si...

Re: Forsaking All

When it said to forsake all, would that include devices such as iPads, computers ect.? Surely the Internet and having luxuries such as wifi would have to be included also? I'm curious how it is preached to forsake ALL whilst typing on your computer using an Internet sevice that requires monthly pay...

Re: Forsaking All

HI Rick, With regards to your response about me using the word OUR (in relation to possessions) and the word YOU not being used in John 3 but being used in Luke 14, I really think you're straining at a gnat while swallowing a camel. Out of your own mouth you have said that his disciples were taught ...

Re: Forsaking All

Hi Paul, So the teaching from Jesus to his disciples about ''loving one another the same as I have loved you'', IS one that you believe we should follow? I too agree with that, but I am wondering how you arrived at that conclusion, seeing as (according to your interpretation) he was just speaking to...

Re: Forsaking All

First off,I think you need to realize that Jesus spoke to people according their own weakness. You know we all have our weaknesses,so try to think in these terms when you see Jesus addressing things to certian people.you also need to know that Jesus had not yet fulfilled all of his mission yet and s...

Re: Forsaking All

Thanks, windywherever, for your comments. As the Quakers would say, ''You have spoken my mind''. However, in further response to RickD, the reason I used the word 'our' is because I see that the teachings Jesus gave to his disciples are meant for us too. With regards to the 'none of you/anyone' comm...

Forsaking All

This is a look at the concept of 'forsaking all' or 'renunciation' as some religious/spiritual movements call it. In theses following verses: Matthew 4:18-22, Mark 1:16-20, Luke 5:10-11,27-29, we see Jesus giving a call and people responding by forsaking jobs/possessions/family to follow him. That d...

Re: Community

Hi Nessa, Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I in particular liked this thought: ''To me community is about being authentic, raw and real..to accept each other and love each other for the person God has created us to be. And to not be turned away from each other cos we all have our own dirt to deal w...

Re: Hearing His Voice

My experience of hearing God's voice is similar to that which others have shared. I believe God can speak to us in different ways, e.g. scripture, Godly-counsel, direct revelations, circumstances, coincidences, etc. However, I do believe most reliable way to hear from God is Jesus' teachings, after ...

Jesus lived and traveled with his disciples full time. He taught his disciples to go two by two, he said things like ''where two or three are gathered in my name, there I will be''. When we look at the book of Acts, we see the disciples living and working for the Lord together. It says they shared e...

I definately get what your saying rain. Absolutely there is a progression to a cashless society, it seems almost unavoidable that it will progress to such. I read just a couple days ago that for those on social security payments it has been proposed that they will be paid via a cashless card to ens...

Re: The Mark of the Beast

Rain, you can't take a verse and decide what part is literal and what part is metaphpore or allegory. IF the part about people only being able to buy or sell is literal then, in the same verse and context, that part about the sign being the name or the number is also literal, in other words only th...
