Re: Local flood, not all humanity killed?

I grew up being told the major events in the Bible happen at 2000 year increments, which put the earth at about 6000 to 8000 years old. A global flood is one of the 2k points. But you don't have to look very far to see there are problems with this belief. If a global flood happened literally then we...

Re: Prayers/Questions/thoughts being answered - spot on

Stay away from James White, JB. He's Lordship Salvation and his "doctorate" is questionable. I'm aware of him. He's got some stuff I've found helpful like his lectures on manuscript history topics and translation versions. His book on Grieving Back To Faith is excellent reading for those ...

New view of Paul

For a quite some time my view of Paul was a hard nosed, my way or the highway type of guy. A wild card who was applying his own flavor of the Christian message under the heavy influence of Pharisee-ism. An overbearing bossy guy who chewed out Peter because Peter's action didn't fit Paul 's view of t...

Re: Personality types

In various supervision and management courses the DISC test was given to the class. DISC is an acronym which I can't remember what the letters mean anymore. But the premise was there were 4 basic personality types and knowing your type can help you understand why you do or act the way you do. Can al...

Re: Rob Bell AFTER Hell

There's a couple paranormal shows I saw where the medium/sensitive person was told that "They (people) damn themselves". At first I figured it was familiar spirits telling lies contrary to what I'd been lead to believe about predestination. However, the more I thought about it, the more it...

Re: Unique way that started journey back to Bible

Thank you for sharing that JB. I struggle with reading the Bible, which mystifies me as I feel Christ working within me so keenly. Maybe I can take your idea and use it to help me. I love reading about Christ, about faith so perhaps I should approach it like that. The Bible has to be the ultimate b...

Christ's role minimized - analysis

In viewing and reading a wide variety of theologies, belief systems, academic positions, basic opinions, etc, I've noticed a pattern. The pattern concerns Jesus Christ and his role/power and attempted denial of it by individuals or groups. Here's a rough draft of my observations. It goes in a progre...

Re: Top sceptic agrees remote viewing scientifically proven

Some years ago there was a program that reported on the CIA program. IIRC almost all the info came from one guy who was a "remote viewer" in the unit. He claimed it worked but it took some effort and lots of practice. Goal being to "enter" top secret Soviet facilities. He didn't ...

If you all knew the horrible torture that vegetables and fruits go through, by the hands of humans, you'd never eat veggies again. http://www.vegetablecruelty.com/category/atrocities/ Yes. Have you ever seen how a combine works while harvesting? Just the sight of those behemoths coming down the row...

Yes, plus take out the trash, nod yes when she interrupts your favorite TV show but never interrupt her's, complete all honey do list, learn to operate by a schedule or at least pretend you do - really well, pray together in the evening every night, remember that she is not really nagging but rathe...

Unique way that started journey back to Bible

I was gone from the faith for many years but still had my love of history, curiosity of things in general. Don't recall the year but I ran across this tv show The Naked Archeologist. Basically the show revolved around a Bible story and investigated archeology related to it. During episodes about spe...

Re: Prayers/Questions/thoughts being answered - spot on

Reminds me of taking Shakespeare in high school. I could read the words individually but the message/storyline was pretty foggy to say the least. I like clear, to the point, cleanly constructed sentences and paragraphs. Like a detective testifying in court simple vs a lawyer writing up a legal brief...

Re: Is your faith so fragile.........

The issue is the "False Hope" of Calvinism: that one may think they have faith in Christ but not actually be one of those God has chosen for eternal life. With such a fragile view of salvation, they have to constantly strive to persevere in good works, one of which is not doubting their f...

Re: Is your faith so fragile.........

I think what brought this up in my mind was reading through the various letters of Paul. Specifically the parts where he's advising believers how to treat each other with love and respect, etc. I certainly did not see hardly anything resembling Paul's advice in the congregations in my formative year...
