Looks like eveyone here just coughed up the Encyclopedia Britannica or something. So I leave you guys and for a few minutes and now I have to clean this up... Well maybe I can't do much on this one. Not even clorox would work... On another subject, in your view, does not that kind of salvation...

What I am referring to is response that is solely based on emotion and in which critical thinking goes out the door. Probably I should have just used the word "bigotry." Unfortunately there is an element at times in evangelical and protestant thinking that just automatically rejects anyth...

So, I suppose in a way that you help prove my point on salvation: either you and others in the Calvinist/Arminian traditions are right and I am utterly wrong, or I am right and you and those in the Calvinist/Arminian traditions are utterly wrong. Put even simpler, one of us are heretics. Jac, just ...

It's just that the catholic church's understanding wasn't really that far off Howdy, I'm back... Well I think it was pretty far off at the time. With the Council of Trent from 1545 - 1563 it was considered one of the most important councils in the history of the Catholic church as a response to the...

It merely restated in clearer terms what the doctrine should have stated all along. Hi Byblos, but if it was so clear why did Luther break off from the church? Who was misunderstood about the teaching? Luther became convinced that the Church had misunderstood several of the central truths of Christ...

Are some of the people of Islam dangerous or is it Islam itself, and the doctrines that the Qur'an teaches? I wouldn't go as far as saying that anyone who is Islamic is dangerous... We live in the 21st century now. I know some muslims that wouldn't even hurt a fly... Perhaps I would say an Islamic ...

Gman, I would love to continue this discussion with you in a separate thread as, like I said before, this thread was to discuss Islam, not catholicism. Agreed... In fact I was going to say that too, but then I thought it would show that I was waffleing. I'm also sorry if I attacked your faith by sa...

No, the sacrements are viewed as necessary to maintain salvation, not to earn it, as clearly stated above in 2027. You just need to read the fine print. First, how do you maintain a gift? Are you saying God gives a gift then takes it away if we don't uphold the sacrements? A conditional God? Huh? Y...

Or it could be number 4 too... How about I wasn't in Catholic schools in 1999 when this statement was made? I went to Catholic schools in the 70's and early 80's. But then again, the position of the Catholic church changes so often that no one really knows what their position is half the time... It'...

It would be similar... I should know. I went to Catholic schools most of my life. Works + faith = salvation.

Praying five times a day and in the right direction is not a good deed but a reminder to a devout beleiver. It is like calling a loved one from work to remind yourself of your devotion to them. I would disagree with this... Muslims require faith and works such as the Five Pillars of Islam, (their d...

I would have to say that what really distinguishes Christianity from the other religons is our way of salvation. It cannot be obtained through works but by faith alone... You cannot work for it, do good deeds, pray in the right direction, pray five times a day, to obtain it.

I believe many Muslims believe Jesus was rescued from the cross at the last moment and replaced by Judas. There are some popular theories that would argue that Judas took Christ's place, but (to the credit of the Quran) it's not found there. An example of the growth of this legendary tradition (Jud...
