HOW BAD IS BAD?
God is to be feared, but he is just, what is the most you can get away with and still be saved? This is not a stupid question as in modern society we don't stone a woman to death if she is not a virgin but still think we follow god's law. When we read the bible, what laws are definitely right and wh...

In genesis God creates a flat earth with water around and possibly below it, the sky is a dome and the sun and moon just lights in the sky. Was it deceptive of God to then make the earth appear spherical and orbit the sun? Why do we accept scientific opinion when it contradicts the bible in this ins...

If maintaining literal biblical truth at all costs is your only goal then I suppose this is the only way to go. The Hindu religion believes that the world we perceive is maya (the imagination of the gods) which allows alot of leeway to dispute scientific rationalism too. What about this for an idea?...

I'm a bit late with any reply, but I've been travelling in Thailand and Laos and internet access is way down on my priorities. A materialistic basis for knowledge excludes metaphysics by definition, sorry canuckster. Evoloution by natural selection is a theory and should be treated as such. Dawkins ...

Firstly, nice to see the old Gman back- intelligent, articulate and most of all reasonable. I hope you know I mean that. My point was that showing Darwin's racism doesn't have any bearing on his theory and as evoloutionary theory has moved on, it just isn't relevant. I completely accept that the pre...

I'm not defending Darwin or Darwinism, I'm suggesting that people and their ideas should be taken in a historical context. Darwin's personality has no bearing on the validity of his theory. I'm not a theologian and I referred you to the web page to show how the bible has been used to endorse slavery...

Dawkins is arrogance personified but no more than some religious leaders, pastor Haggard for instance. I'm not referring to the recent allegations but to an interview with prof Dawkins, broadcast on BBC1, where he refuses to entertain any alternatives to his evangelical teachings. However most scient...

What is the big deal about evolution? Christianity( all religions but this is a christian discussion page so . . .) believed in a flat earth, that was over-turned, then Copernicus suggested the heliocentric solar system which was suppressed but finally was accepted. Evolution will stand or fall on i...

Science and religion are not mutually exclusive, if we take a step back we can see that they are both searching for the truth. We live in a technological world and technology is the product of science. However, we also live in a spiritual world (I would go as far as to say that more people can live ...

I'm not an apologist for Islam but I had hoped to point out that it needs to be seen in context. No matter what your opinion of Islam, there are people who believe it to be the true and only way. Some muslims will fight and die for this belief. Is the answer for us to close our society? Or a Christi...

I'm pretty sure that we are all communicating from the comfort of a first world country with a wealth of state funded, enlightened education behind us and the benefits of a free press and judiciary. Our forefathers fought for all these privilages and I cherish them. Many Islamic societies do not hav...

Any religion based on divine authority through revealed texts (Islam and Christianity certainly qualify) are in danger of totalitarianism when allowed to rule as a theocracy. I hoped that I made that point by citing how Christians behaved when their religion was the same age as Islam is now. It took...

just browsing and I have to take issue with judah calling Islam totalitarian. All religions ask for devotion and faith but what I think you were referring to is the way Islam seems to permeate all strata of Muslim society. Look at Christian societies 600yrs ago (when Christianity was the same age as...

thank you FFC your response shows great generosity of spirit and gives me hope. As for making assumptions, anything I have said I have meant and all my conclusions were only arrived at after years of deliberation and diligent study, and I am happy to substantiate any and all of them. However that is...
