That statement may have been recorded in 1885, but we don't have an actual date as to when it was really made by Whitney. Whitney said that that it was around 1827 or 28 when it happened and I believe him. By the way if you want to go that route did you realize that the gospels were written between...

The first of these is found in a statement given by Samuel F. Whitney about Sidney Rigdon and his answer for these mounds (well before the BoM's publication). "I came to Kirtland, Ohio in 1826. ... heard Sidney Rigdon preach in Squire Sawyers' orchard in 1827. He said how desirable it would be...

Ironically, I attended a Veritas Forum panel discussion just this week. Two gentlemen from the organization presented their case for Intelligent Design, while a panel of critics questioned their science and conclusions. I couldn't stay the whole time (it was pretty long), but I enjoyed what I saw. N...

Revelation 22:19 says: And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book. Therefore, even removing a single word from the Bible is violating t...

My response to you last post are printed in blue. Thats just it though, I know of no instance where Joseph or Sidney ever made any correlation between the mounds and the BoM peoples. Perhaps we might dig up some quote somewhere on the internet to refute my current knowledge. I am currently reading S...

1. Many people back then were digging up these mounds looking for buried treasure. Also back then many people didn't really know what these mounds were used for as we do today.. Which is why people like Spalding, Rigdon, and Smith jumped on the opportunity to try explain it. [/ Thats just it though...

Gman, As I have already said, I have not yet had the opportunity to do any in depth study of this issue. I have however artificially read some things pertaining to it, and I find it interesting. I am open to ideas, criticisms, and debate on the issue. However at this time I cannot consider myself a ...

Fortigurn, I have not followed very closely your participation on the other forum. Since you began posting there you have posted much more than I have. I just haven't had time. I did notice however while reading a few of the threads, that you were percieved by most as unfair and conniving. I would a...

I can only suggest that they simply are not accustomed to your personality, and a sincere gesture might appear not-so-sincere in light of the level of sarcasm that is sometimes seen on the board. There are not very many sincere antagonists on that board, most of them having a chip on their shoulder....

I have given thought to your insistence for proof that the Book of Mormon is a translated document. What type of thing would constitute as proof? For me, the description of Joseph sitting down with the plates, looking at them, and reading to his scribe what they say is evidence for translation. What...

Fortigurn, Thank you for your patience. I have had a very busy week at school, and I needed to put this off. After re-reading our present discussion, I realized that it is not altogether clear to me what your position is, other than to show that mormonism is false. To be more specific, in our discus...

As to the treatment by those in the other forum, I will admit that it is not always to my liking. But I have never encounered a forum that did not have people who appeared hostile at times. I will however suggest that it is a forum with very heated debate, and one in which tempers sometimes are lost...

I apologize for the delay. It has been some days, and it will yet be more days before I am able to produce a full response to your last post. I find myself with less time than before.

Thank you for your continued patience.

I do not want to get sidetracked on a different topic. But I will only mention one important key to you understanding of what I mean. It is not by my feelings that I determine truth. I recognize that human feelings are inadequate, changing, and biased. Our wants and desires affect the way we feel. I...
