Re: What measure is microevolution?

I too am curious about this because I am in discussions with an evolutionist who sees macro/micro evolution a lot different to what I do. This person believes that given enough time macroevolution can occur and that makes all the difference in the world concerning the two. Whereas I am saying you ca...

Re: Is this a strawman argument?

That's a reasonably presented argument and makes sense to me. Just realize that when you make a statement like "evolution teaches that man evolved from monkeys" that not all people will understand that you're saying that until you go on to explain more, as you just did. Until they know be...

Re: Is this a strawman argument?

Well I had an evolutionist on a forum say two things which looked to me like they were talking out of both sides of their mouth. Here are the two things said... It is a straw-man argument to say that anyone who adheres to the ToE believes that humans are descended from monkeys. It most certainly is ...

Re: Is this a strawman argument?

Well my thought was that according to neo-darwinian evolution we did not descend from apes like we see today. That's a given. But if we descended from a common ancestor and that common ancestor is an ape then it's not a strawman argument by any stretch of the imagination.

Is this a strawman argument?

Is it a strawman argument to claim that anyone who adheres to the theory of evolution believes that humans are descended from monkeys?

Re: Is ID non-scientific because it has relgious implication

Something I would not like to see being taught in schools, universities, etc. however, is the YEC theology. (no offense to Young Earthers) Yes although I was once an avid Young Earther and although these are my brothers in Christ, I am finding it harder and harder find good reasoning and good logic...

Re: Is ID non-scientific because it has relgious implication

Yeh I think we are in agreement somewhat. I just find ID as an accumulative case a more robust argument than macro-evolution. Again if one is taught in the science lab then the should also. Or they can both stay out. I think I'm dreaming though at this point hehe.

I hope you slept well.

Re: Is ID non-scientific because it has relgious implication

Evolutionism (macro-evolution) should also be left out of the science lab as well though. I disagree. I definitely think speciation ("macroevolution") is plausible.. Do most of you day-agers here flatout reject the theory of speciation, or are just skeptical? (asking because i've seen som...

Re: Less than 24 hour days??

I don't think it matters too much, as I don't think the loss of an hour makes that big of a deal, but just to go to your point anyway . . . you do realize that a YECer would not have to answer your objection at all, right? The loss of the hour would only happen on an OEC time scale. On the YEC time...

Less than 24 hour days??

I read this interesting comment that if true might prove a YEC model that little bit more harder to believe... One second used to be defined as 1/86,400 the length of a day. However, Earth's rotation isn't perfectly reliable. Tidal friction from the sun and moon slows our planet and increases the le...

Thanks so much dayage, I'll forward your post onto my friend who asked the question and get back to you. I thought there was a long and short version hehe. Thanks again for taking the time to explain it to me.

Photosynthesis and an Old Earth

I just did a search and couldn't find a quick and easy explanation on photosynthesis and an old earth. I got asked the question by a YEC, how did plants and stuff survive for such long periods of time without photosynthesis when they were created before the sun appeared on the fourth day/age?
