Re: Hell
i agree that simply ceasing to exist would kind of remove the sense of justice from the concept. Then what is the point of our capital punishment? Don't we understand that putting a murderer to death is really doing nothing of "justice"? How is it then the families of their victims feel a...

Re: Hell
But also... The concept of Oblivion - although comforting for some would mean there would be no true justice. For instance isn't this what the Athiest believes? They could in theory do what ever they want during their lives, be as selfish as they want, because in the end they face oblivion anyway. ...

Re: Hell
Those verses don't suggest what you're suggesting. It says that unbelievers will expierience judgement in the same way that Sodom and Gomorrah did, I agree with this 100%. It does not however, suggest what your saying, that since Sodom and Gomorrah's punishment was temporary, Hell is temporary. Thu...

Re: Hell
Burning forever would be MUCH worse than ceasing to exist. If you ceased to exist, you would not know that you had ceased to exist and it wouldn't be torment at all. In revelations, its pretty clear that the "burning" will not cease. I think its sort of wishful thinking that since Sodom a...

Hell
i've been thinking about the concept of 'hell' a lot lately, for a couple reasons... first of all, im sick of hearing and seeing other christians pull out the "hell card" so to speak, when they are trying to share and justify their faith to others. telling someone they should believe in Ch...

The Old Testament and history
I was hoping to come across a discussion about the historical accounts of the OT vs. proven history, but i couldn't find one. i have always been a believer in biblical inerrancy; however, it seems that more and more people are out to disprove that by bringing up the fact that history "proves&qu...

Re: Infinity
tommyboy605182, Oh, and by the way causation requires that the branes have a beginning so the argument just gets shifted. i agree that the whole theory sounds very bizarre. i also agree that there must eventually be a beginning, even if physicists manage to push it back billions or trillions of yea...

Re: Infinity
just wondering if anybody could provide me with some reading material on the concept of infinity; evidence for and against an infinite regress? i read that theories on loop quantum gravity show that there is evidence of a prior universe contracting before the big bang. however, the evidence also so...

Re: Is ID non-scientific because it has relgious implications?
i didn't read this entire thread, so ill just respond to the initial question. i don't think ID has religious implications if it is taught right; i don't think schools should teach ID in the strict creationism sense. the word "creationism" brings up too many images and implications of a 60...

Re: Infinite universe?
my question is, is there any true PROOF against an ageless universe? Yes...it's called the Big Bang Theory, which says the Universe came into being at a past time via an 'external causal agent'. The 2K background radiation predicted by the Big Bang Theory was confirmed in the early 1990's. yes, i u...

Re: Infinite universe?
The assumption that energy was timeless would only apply if the conditions that make it appear so in the context of this present universe were constant and remained so within what ever parallel or previous universes or multiverses. You cannot prove a negative in this realm so the onus would be upon...

Infinite universe?
first of all hello to everyone, i'm new here. i am glad i found this board, i recently became very interested in cosmology after reading the book "Show Me God" by Fred Heeren. my question is, is there any true PROOF against an ageless universe? i have been involved in a debate with an athe...
