Re: Is the present financial crisis a sign of end times?
Prognostications are always too difficult to predict! ;) I do find it fascinating when I see all the finger pointing going on (especially here in the U.S.)trying to determine who's to blame. My only prayer is that there will be a revival as a result of the current crisis, which could only happen onc...

Re: Question
I have to agree. We will be rewarded in heaven for what we did on Earth, and it would be strange if we did not know why we were being rewarded. Likewise, in the Lazarus parable, the man in hell seems to have a recollection of Earth (with the caveat that this might not be meant to be an exact repres...

Re: Utilitarian Hedonism
Thank you, B.W. This was the summary I needed. From this point, the contradictions become evident. As for Utilitarianism itself; it all boils down to meaningful morality. If something does not have an absolute foundation, it is essentially meaningless. The core of a Utilitarian worldview boils down ...

Re: Utilitarian Hedonism
I have some notes on this at home that I'll get to tonight, but in the meantime, what is the actual question you are debating? You can, for example, pretty easily get him to abandon utilitarian hedonism in favor of a more egoistic perspective (I think he would have to, actually), but is that enough...

Re: Apologetics fields
Gary Habermas is excellent.
I am most comfortable approaching the moral issue.
I prefer to ask questions and allow the skeptic to reveal a contradictory worldview. The illogic shows through and stimulates thought.
I like the early works of Francis Schaeffer and the teachings of Ravi Zacharias.

Utilitarian Hedonism
Last year, I debated Marc Rodwin PH.D., who teaches business ethics, on the topic of Ethics and Morality. This year, he wants to debate again. His worldview is based on John Stuart Mill's theory of utilitarian hedonism. Although I am confident I can refute this stand, I would appreciate any input/su...

If anyone is interested, please listen to this lecture series presented by Hugh Ross Ph.D. The entire lecture runs about 70 minutes, broken down into 10 minutes segments. Students of the sciences will find it particularly compelling. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LuEYjYDrKH4 Thanks. I might be int...

"I do have the right to determine the difference between right and wrong in my life and the lives of others." That is interesting But when you do determine what is wrong in in the lives of other's, what do you do with that information? To tell someone they are going to hell is perfectly r...

I may be mistaken (and feel free to correct me), but were not the "wise men" seers? I would assume (although I cannot say for sure) that this involved some form of what could be called "astronomy".

When I hear the word "judge", I think of someone who has the authority to prescribe punishment. I do not have the authority to condemn someone to hell or advance someone to heaven. I do have the right to determine the difference between right and wrong in my life and the lives of others. D...

I hope I never make zoegirl mad at me  !!! But I can understand your anger and frustration and you made some excellent points... The "sex in christ" website is the result of post modernism and moral relativism. There are no defined limits. What is wrong for you may not be...

Re: Advice/comments welcomed
I believe most people look at Christians as a caricature: Bible thumping, "fire and brimstone" spouting, self absorbed, judging narcissists. It is true that some have, and still do, resort to an aggressive approach to evangelism. In the book "When Bad Christians Happen to Good People&...

Advice/comments welcomed
I would like to share something with you and ask for your comments. Recently, I was sharing the faith with a man who raised the objection to Christianity, "I hate Christianity because you people are always telling us we are going to hell. I don't think you should judge others..." I told hi...
