Re: marijuana/prostitution
Looking at the perceived sinfulness of extra-marital sex (in every form, either with or without prostitution and regardless of whether both parties are single, simply the fact that it is outside marriage), I have given above my reason for why I think it is denounced in the Bible. (ie, as a stumbling...

Re: marijuana/prostitution
Zoegirl, I have thought about this issue of sex/spirituality a lot since my 'conversion', as it seems to be the crux of so many spiritual and human tests, as well as being (potentially) a source of both joy and pain on a spectrum which extends far and wide in both of those directions. You may find i...

Re: marijuana/prostitution
Zoegirl, I am not being deliberately obtuse or trying to wind people up, I genuinely have another point of view so there is no need to 'shout' and feel frustrated.... When I read your post the overriding point which comes out is the idea that men and women are unequal because the onus is on the man ...

Re: marijuana/prostitution
so ALL sex outside marriage is considered sinful - now we see the grey area of 'good sex' v 'bad sex' expanding into the solar system.... and Zoegirl, don't sound so horrified when I talk about the joy of sex leading to more joy in life and (possibly, this was only an example) an inclination to feel...

Re: marijuana/prostitution
Canuckster, you raised one of the points that intrigues me most (mainly from a philosophical point of view, I admit) which is the issue of 'the enjoyment' of sex in comparison with prostiution, which is generally taken to debase human sexuality. Given the moral nature of the argument, it is also a v...

Re: marijuana/prostitution
To be honest, they only real argument AGAINST legalising prostitution that's been put forward (IMO) is the fact that according to people I assume know better than I, the bible is said to forbid it, everything else is subjective. Whether biblical tenets are the most practical, effective - or even mor...

Re: marijuana/prostitution
if one thing's clear it's that the law just isn't tackling the problem effectively, one way or another. legislating against prostitution doesn't work and legislating for it would throw up a new set of problems and is incompatible with biblical teaching, no matter what moral dilemmas that poses in al...

Re: marijuana/prostitution
Compelling arguments, that is for sure.... so do you think what we've really got to do with prostitution is accept it is part of the underworld, punishable by law, and hope that one day it won't be there? I guess this is what most of us do anyway for most of the time...

Re: marijuana/prostitution
Nobody is denying the damaging effects of prostitution and it is concern for the horror of many prostitutes' lives that makes me argue for some form of regulation. There is more chance of helping these women if they are permitted to operate within the law, given that - and this is quite a fundamenta...

Re: marijuana/prostitution
Except for the fact that you guys have summarily dismissed all of the prostitutes that have not chosen that lifestyle. Th young women who were abused and sunk into that lifestyle. Cheating and adultery IS a stupid foolish decision by two parties. Prostitution, in most cases, is a desperate case for...

Re: marijuana/prostitution
I understand that you don't condone it. Good...larger picture is that marijuana and prostitution hurt only those people that partake in it...marijuana being even less harmful (if at all) than legal cigarettes/cigars. You'd be hard pressed to find one prostitute that is ignorant to the moral and leg...

Re: marijuana/prostitution
The 'problem' I think - perhaps - is that we all have free will and morality from a societal point of view is relative in the sense that it's subject to the moral code of the individuals and groups who make up that society. We might think our way is right - and maybe it actually is - but not everyon...

Re: marijuana/prostitution
It's not about everyone knowing the same, I said that in response to the preaching tone someone used, which i can't stand, I find it so patronising and holier than thou, a few steps removed from public stoning - I'd say it's the main reason people fall away from the church, together with the hypocri...

Re: marijuana/prostitution
hmm...I knew I'd be letting myself in for this, I don't think you even understood my comment as you seem to think I'm saying prostitution is a marvellous thing, when my main point in arguing for its legalisation was to protect the women who have to do it! Why be so quick to judge? Nothing much was s...

Re: marijuana/prostitution
I can't see how legalising prostitution would lead to divorce....I'd say prostitution is preferable to someone having an affair (which usually involves emotional attachments) if they aren't satisfied in their marriage. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it's ideal - far from it - but the lesser of t...
