Re: A Theological Wrinkle
No, Lev. 18:16 does NOT render the question obsolete. They were quoting the Mosaic Law, specifically Deut 25:5 If brothers are living together and one of them dies without a son, his widow must not marry outside the family. Her husband's brother shall take her and marry her and fulfill the duty of ...

Re: A Theological Wrinkle
This is off-topic, but since you brought up I wanted to say something. I'm so tired of hearing this on the board, Jac. I don't know anyone that believes it takes more than faith to be saved . . . well not that I can recall. Everyone that has written here that is sort-of a regular, and that I have w...

Re: Proof for an Intelligent Creator
So in response to your answer, can I take it that you have never asked a theist "If God is the cause, then what caused God"? You are perfectly rational in treating your "unknowingness" or "unknowability" in a neutral fashion, and I couldn't possibly critisise such a st...

Re: Proof for an Intelligent Creator
One of 2 options really: 1 - It could be possible that the universe was caused by something with a purpose. This could be a transcendent "being", perhaps of a simulation a la "The Matrix" being run somewhere (for example), or yet more things which we haven't thought about or per...

Re: A Theological Wrinkle
Did you not read the context of Jesus' statement? Let me provide it for you: 23That same day the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to him with a question. 24"Teacher," they said, "Moses told us that if a man dies without having children, his brother must marry the wid...

Re: Proof for an Intelligent Creator
All of the above assumes that the law of causality (as you state it) holds true outside of our own universe. It could be that causality was created along with space, time and matter. This is not to say that the universe didn't have an intelligent creator, just that it doesn't follow necessarily fro...

Re: Morals without god/the bible
As a way of expressing my doubts concerning objective reality, consider suicide bombers. What is their motivation? Although monetary rewards for their families play some part, it seems that most are convinced that they are sacrificing their lives for God and for which they will get an immediate hea...

Re: Morals without god/the bible
Absolutely. All social animals have well defined codes of conduct (aka morals) that control inter-personal relationships. Without these codes of conduct, their respective societies would quickly disintegrate. Since most social animals are not particularly adapted to survive individually, they benef...

Re: The Rise of Man
Yes it was a great punishment. You have to realise that in the beginning there was only 2 commands given to man. The first was a blessing (Genesis1:28), the second is a "prohibition"(Genesis 2:17) with the result if they do, and why did God do this?(Genesis 3:5) infoms us.The 1st command ...

Re: The Rise of Man
The verses are easily read by just passing the cursor over them, although I do not prefer the bible translation used. If you read the verses, you'd know what I meant by Satan's domain. We live in the world controlled by Satan. How can this be viewed as a rise of ANY sort? You need to read the whole...

Re: A Theological Wrinkle
Danny, actually we do know, because God's Word teaches us. We have to be very careful in how we read certain scriptures. There are certain scriptures which if read out of context or outside the whole counsel of God could lead one to this conclusion. For example: 1 Cor. 7:14 If we take this verse ou...

Re: A Theological Wrinkle
I have a point to counter my own argument - was there an underlying assumtion, or even an unconscious assumption, that those who were married had faith? I wonder if no-one really thought that the married couple would have one who was without faith.

Any time Danny. I would love to shoot the breeze with you in person. If there's does exist a match for the Londoner, to put the Londoner in his place, then it has to be the New Yorker! Throughout the OT God makes it clear that punishment can befall a person's descendants to the second and thi...

Re: The Rise of Man
This is a very good question. I personaly do not see anything wrong with questioning anything. The replies so far also acknowledge this, so you need not feel you have to vindicate yourself, it is all a matter of learning, absorbing, digesting and coming to a sound conclusion, through hopefully sinc...
