Re: Questions on God's creation days

I cannot speak for Tom, but I can clarify my beliefs regarding yom. I believe: Yom has many meanings (from Strong's concordance etc). The meaning assigned to it therefore must be observed from the context within which it is used. The context in Gen 1 does not change because of things external to th...

Re: Questions on God's creation days

I very much like what you state here and completely agree with it so I will only address the point below. By the way, I never meant to imply in any way shape or form that the 'translated' text is not inspired, otherwise we'd all better be Hebrew and Greek scholars. Cool - I'm glad we clarified that...

Re: Questions on God's creation days

What are you talking about? I have no clue why you're saying any of this. No one claimed or suggested any of the sort. Thus the usage of "Are you suggesting" - to ask you to clarify your point vs. what I thought you might be suggesting. You seemed quick to cast aspersion on the translator...

Re: Question on Faith

Again, my questions are sincere and I admit that sometimes I take the pessimistic approach to things, just my basic manner and personality. W Acts 17:11 "Now the Bereans were of more noble character than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scr...

Re: Questions on God's creation days

You seem to be accusing us of skirting or shying away from a debate when no debatable points have been offered. You also seem to put a whole lot of stock in translators. While I'm certain they have had the best of intentions, first they are by no means inspired as you asserted before, and second, t...

Re: Question on Faith

Again I wish to say that I am in no way putting down the belief's of others, but since I have never seen God, nor has anyone I know seen God, one must therefore rely on FAITH when confirming the existence of God. To quote a line from a movie, "faith is a gift I have yet to be given." Whil...

Re: Questions on God's creation days

Nice speech. But I can't help but find in it the typical YEC drivel that unless one reads a literal 24-hour day in yom then one is not believing in the word of God. We simply reject that assertion and you haven't offered anything new in exchange, sorry. It was a very thoughtful speech. This YEC &qu...

Re: Questions on God's creation days

It is the YEC camps that ae declaring this as the means and methods, the onus is on *them* to defend their statements. Let me back up and try to find some common ground. Gen 7:22 "Everything on dry land that had the breath of life in its nostrils died." Can we agree that this verse means ...

Re: Questions on God's creation days

Nobody is questioning the dog variations...but the myriads ot dogs out there are *NOT* different species. The question is whether the 45 kinds of mammal familes and 75 kinds of bird families mentioned by ROBE or toerh YEC proponents of rapid speication could experience the rapid speciation. Second ...

Re: Questions on God's creation days

Just want to throw my 2 cents in here. 6You (K)covered it with the deep as with a garment; The waters were standing above the mountains. 7At Your (L)rebuke they fled, At the (M)sound of Your thunder they hurried away. 8The mountains rose; the valleys sank down To the (N)place which You established f...

Re: Yom, a dialogue

Creation Day 7 = Exodus 20:11's Sabbath day and is the sign spoken of in 31:17. I thought I had made a good explanation of the days... Yes...God created, in *His six days*, the heavens and the earth. Were those six days consequtive as humans have known days since day 6 of creation? In my opinion (b...

Re: Yom, a dialogue

Let me rephrase the question:

Are the seven days described in Gen 1 as well as Exodus 20:11 and Exodus 31:17 the same as our Sunday through Saturday we have today?

Re: Yom, a dialogue

If one is going to argue the point that the creation days in Genesis are literal 24hr periods of time, one must conclude that either God's creative abilities are less than instantaneous, or He may have a studdering problem. Which would you say? . I cut out most of your response to reduce the confus...

Re: Yom, a dialogue

Actually, I'm saying just the opposite. With the preposition IN as part of the text, the six days become entrapped as consecutive. Remove that preposition and remove the restriction. The six days that you were working on that cake now become any ol' days and as such, it could take you a year from s...

Re: Yom, a dialogue

Exodus 20:11 (New International Version) 11 For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy. The highlighted word is not in the original Hebrew, but most English ...
