Re: Prayer request for my mom

Byblos, definitely have you in my prayers. I can so identify and know much of what you're probably going through. My mom went to be with the Lord, after suffering from Alzheimer's, almost exactly two years ago - she was also 85. Amazingly, she suffered almost 13 years. This is probably the hardest t...

Re: Tim Tebow's "death"

Yes, Philip. I heard Canadien women look like the Geico caveman. Well, Rick, those fellows up in the Great White North probably don't marry for looks as much as for a gal who will keep them warm on a -20 night - so her back hair rug probably comes in handy. :esad: OK, ladies, just a little (and pro...

Re: Tim Tebow's "death"

Any place where summer lasts only about two weeks, and the women are known to have fairly hairy backs...well, that's too dang cold! :shakehead: Funny thing is, we live in (and I'm from) the deep South, and my wife is from northern CT - yet, weirdly, guess who always has a blanket on the bed on Augus...

Re: Tim Tebow's "death"

There's not much to do in Canada, in the winter. Hockey and ice fishing, are aboot the only things to do, eh? :pound:
Rick, TWO words: "FLY SOUTH!" Actually, THREE words are better: "Fly FAR South!" :P

Re: Tim Tebow's "death"

Well, I'd have to be drunk myself, to want to go fishing on ICE! :esurprised: For crying out loud, fishing is a warm water activity - or it should be. It's the only "sport" of which warm beer might go with.

Re: I am forced to love God (if he exists)

if you are sincerely interested in dealing with the 'difficulties' I would strongly recommend the book, "Is God a moral monster," by Paul Copan. Yes, "Is God a Moral Monster" is an EXCELLENT book. It really helps one understand many difficult and disturbing passages in the Old T...

Re: What is hell like?

Yeah my post did take a slightly more solemn tone following on from your more light-hearted comment  Yeah, well, Stu, it's the first day back to work, school and the real world for many of us, so I just figured discussing hell on the equivalent of a Monday might be just too much for some, haha.

Re: What is hell like?

On a serious side, yeah, loneliness just burns one's soul, to the point of you just feel depressed and are merely existing.

Re: What is hell like?

Well, I had a "hell" experience once: My mother-in-law came and stayed for TEN DAYS!!! :( Just kidding (well, kind of.) However, the most feared words I can ever hear my wife say, are, "My mother's coming for a visit." :esurprised: :esurprised: :esurprised: Be afraid, be VERY afr...

Re: John Wesley's theology

it's not fair to characterize all Calvinists in that manner. And nor would I want to. I believe in perhaps four of the five points myself. And I do apologize to Byblos if I have miscategorized him as a Five Point Calvinist, although he does seem to support it and apparently is irritated at my and o...

Re: John Wesley's theology

Do you really have a point to make Philip other than just asserting the same thing over and over again? Yes, Byblos, I do have a point - one you obviously avoided by making ME the focus, and not answering my questions. My post asks an obvious question: why would any Five Point Calvinist think it of...

Re: John Wesley's theology

I find it bewildering that folks that believe that a person must be regenerated before they can believe in God, that there is NO choice before ANYONE to personally decide whether or not to embrace God, are hanging out on a website with a key part of its mission statement being to “encourage skeptics...

Re: John Wesley's theology

Byblos: 2. Do we have any inherent power within us to save ourselves? Philip: No, but we DO have free will to respond as God enlightens and draws - responding positively to his drawing will result in his leading us all the way to salvation - we cannot do it without His drawing. But he also foreknow...
