Re: Infinite punishment for finite sins

Narnia--here's basically my point. Jac brought up God's infinite nature to justify the idea that all sins are of infinite gravity because, he says, they infinitely offend God (your idea was that people are punished because they reject God's forgiveness which I also object to in a similar way) Howeve...

Re: Do Christians apologize?

What does it mean if a believer does not display or stops displaying God's work in him? John 15:1 I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman. 2 Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit. ...

Re: Do Christians apologize?

Then it means that he is a selfish ****. However, on the faith-alone interpretation, he is still as saved as ever.

Re: Infinite punishment for finite sins

@Narnia: I disagree that there's sufficient evidence for everyone, but let's say there is for the sake of argument. They still 1) don't know that this being is "infinite" in nature 2) that this being actually cares about what they do and holds them accountable for their evil actions 3) tha...

Re: Infinite punishment for finite sins

Sorry, the Bible may have been inspired by God, but it was written by fallible people. The existence of an infinite God who holds people accountable for their actions may have been obvious to the apostle Paul who saw the resurrected Jesus with his own eyes, but it was not obvious to the majority of ...

Re: Infinite punishment for finite sins

The one problem I have with Jac and narnia's position is one that I argued in that thread about Divine Hiddenness. How can someone, who never had sufficient information to believe in God, much less an "infinite God", and the least a God who actually cares about what humans do and is "...

Re: Do Christians apologize?

B.W, I can't speak in Jac or Jlay's name (and I sincerely don't mean to beat the dead horse) but you already know that the "faith-alone" position doesn't claim that a Christian should not live their life in accordance to their beliefs--just that this is not a necessary component of eschato...

Re: Atheist argument that is causing my friend to doubt...

Sorry, I am not involving myself in this, take that up with Jac3510 (already have several massive posts to respond to). I just felt the need to comment on that sentence. In any case, I'm sure you already know the standard responses for the verses you're citing (Jesus saying that not everyone who ack...

Re: Atheist argument that is causing my friend to doubt...

CSLL, my point is that "John 3:16 is just one verse" does not mean anything. If it's about the number of relevant verses, then the "faith-alone" gospel surely wins.

cslewislover wrote: John 3:16 is one verse.
There are over 150 verses in the Bible which plainly say something like "whoever believes will be saved", 90 of which are in the Gospel of John. You'd have to do some serious mental gymnastics to explain all of them away.

Re: A list of assorted Bible questions that are nagging me

B.W - your entire argument hinges on this idea that naturalists use force and coercion to shove their opinions down other people's throats. I'm sure this has happened. And I'm sure it still happens today. Christians have done the same. But it would be an extreme hasty generalization to say that athe...

Re: A list of assorted Bible questions that are nagging me

Christian theism offers choice - atheistic naturalism does not. According to atheistic naturalism you must follow the party line or be ostersized, made fun of, ridicule, mocked, and scorned. Now that's just wrong. Where did you get this idea from? Certainly, there are naturalists who think that way...

Re: Atheist argument that is causing my friend to doubt...

Jac, let me make this clear: I am not an atheist , so I don't know why you're getting so angry (and it seems to me accusing me of dishonesty and laziness). So, I'm merely entertaining this argument now because it has been, among other things, causing me doubts lately. So I thought a conversation wit...
