Re: Question about salvation assurance...

By the way, where does it say in the Holy Scriptures that we are saved by God's grace alone? For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works,...

Re: Question about salvation assurance...

James, Once we are saved(through faith by God's grace alone), it is God who does the works in us (evidence of fruit), by the Holy Spirit who lives in us. We aren't doing good works of and by ourselves. The good works are the evidence to others that we have God inside us. Yes, He works in us. And we...

Yes, we can be made children of God and be saved from sin. What I am saying is that we always have the free will to turn away from Christ if we so choose. Tha...

Re: Question about salvation assurance...

RickD, Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven. St. Matthew 5:16 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. For we are His workmanship, crea...

Re: Question about salvation assurance...

RickD, Yes, derrick09. It does seem very similar to the Roman Catholicism that I'm familiar with. Well, we used to be One Church, but Rome broke away from the Orthodox Church in the year 1054 A.D Some things in Eastern Orthodoxy and Roman Catholicism are similar, but we are not the same Faith. Many ...

Re: Question about salvation assurance...

Derrick09 After seeing the video myself, this doesn't sound like orthodox Christianity in the traditional sense, it may be more like Orthodox Church of America or OCA to be exact. Well, lets just say its not Evangelical Protestantism. It is Eastern Orthodox Christianity. Whether its Greek Orthodox, ...

Re: Question about salvation assurance...

RickD, sinless of her own free will" isn't what my Bible says. The Bible doesn't have a whole lot to say about the Virgin Mary. And as I said, she is not completely free from sin as her Son is. And, I guess the part where it says:"We believe that the Virgin Mary is the Mother of God."...

Re: Question about salvation assurance...

From the very early years of the Church, Mary was called not only Virgin, but Ever-Virgin. She was seen as never having had a sexual union with Joseph, before or after the birth of Christ. Ezekiel 44:1-2 is a passage often referred to by the early Fathers in this regard. It states: "Then He br...

Re: Question about salvation assurance...

RickD, JamesScott, I think it is important for people here to be aware of some of the teachings that you are promoting, so they can make their own decisions about what you are saying. \ Sure. Although, I'm not really here to "promote" anything. I'm just stating what I now believe. Your fir...

Re: Question about salvation assurance...

jlay, I disagree with your interpretation of Scripture, and I'm not going to answer how we are born again right now. At this time, I would like to explain further what I mean when I say we can't know we're saved, and why I believe this. When I say we cannot "know," it is not because God la...

Re: Question about salvation assurance...

Well honestly, it is my belief that we cannot "know" we are saved because while we are in this life, we are still working our our own salvation with fear and trembling. Our salvation is not yet complete. However, in reference to how we know we have the Holy Spirit: I think the Christian Fa...

Re: Prayer to Saints

jlay, JS, welcome and thanks for your feed back. Thank you, and you're welcome. I am well aware of these positions, although I appreciate you stating them if it helps clear up any misconceptions for others. No problem. We would not agree in how you are defining saints. I'm not sure we would disagree...

Re: Jesus's sacrifice not really much of a sacrifice?

Could someone explain to me how his death is really a sacrifice? What did he have to lose? He was God. I could see it being a sacrifice if God suffered in hell for eternity for all of us to go to heaven. But he didn't. He only spent one day there? Maybe I'm missing something. Jesus could not suffer...

Re: Prayer to Saints

I had alot of trouble with this when I was a Baptist Christian. And my Protestant family seems to ask me about this sometimes, too. This is an Orthodox Christian's perspective, but I think the RCC may agree on some points, as well... We praise the Saints because they have cooperated with the Grace o...

Re: Greeting!

No, honesty is always the way to go. Thats actually why I'm here. It'll be nice to see the arguments from both sides, atheists and theists.

I guess I feel optimistic. Do you?
