Re: Devaluing Human Existence
An interesting subject, and a very difficult one for me. Let me think out loud here.. This article makes it seem plausible to say altruism does not exist. I mean, even in the act of selfless-ness, you're still performing the action that was more valuable to you. (IE: valuing others more than yoursel...

Re: "I preached against homosexuality, but I was wrong"
I'm with Jlay on this. The truth is, I was put out that this was an issue. Feeding the hungry, preaching the gospel, comforting the afflicted, standing up to racial intolerance -- these were the struggles I signed up for, not determining the morality of what adults did in their bedrooms. Right here ...

Re: How do you evaluate a truth-claim?
In other words, the reason you wouldn't believe the signing cat story is the same reason I deny the resurrection of Jesus, we both know the world doesn't work like that in our presence, so we are confident that it also doesn't work like that in our absence. This is merely a single argument, it is n...

Re: Bible as God's word
I have to disagree here. I don't think believing in Bible Inerrancy is absolutely essential to being a Christian, though it certainly is a big part of it. Matthew 4:4 Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” Seems pret...

God doesn't lie. The Bible must be 100% correct for this to be true.

Re: Was Adam the first human?
I don't think there were any humans prior to Adam anywhere on the globe. Though by that, I mean a spiritually-capable being. A non-spiritual humanoid shouldn't posses any Biblical problems, I would think.
Even if there were, I don't see how it'd ruin God's salvation plan in any way.

Re: Question about the paranormal/supernatural
That's a question others may be able to answer much better than I, and it's a topic that can branch out in many areas. I would suggest checking out Reasons To Believe or Reasonable Faith for some nice resources.

Re: DNA and Evolution vs. Design
If evolution is not at play, why would God make each generation of species appear like the last with only minor differences? For one, survival could be a reason; you could also say it was simply God's choice of design. To say that it *must* be evolution just because you can't figure out why God wou...

Re: Christianity vs. Other Religions
I've nothing against asking questions, Seraph. Noah was simply coming off as a bit militant to me with his initial post.
I shouldn't have played up that poor assumption, however. So, I apologize, Noah.

Re: Christianity vs. Other Religions
No. I already pointed out three possible alternatives to the conclusion. But dogmatically stating that those three conclusions are the only way to have a coherent belief in the Christian God is utterly wrong. That's nothing but axe-grinding, quite frankly. I'm not talking about those who have never...

Re: Christianity vs. Other Religions
The only ways to avoid the conclusion "There is no Christian God" is to adopt inclusvism, universalism or Calvinism. You sound like you have an axe to grind. One scenario that you feel may be inconsistent and you're jumping all the way to "There is no Christian God"? Dr. Craig w...

Re: Christianity vs. Other Religions
-I could argue my faith is correct because I have experienced the Holy Spirit, but what about people from other faiths who claim the same? Are they faking or are we? Or are we both wrong and really religions aren't in the picture at all? I just answered this question in another topic, here's what I...

Re: Question about the paranormal/supernatural
Dr. Craig puts it something like having two jars, one filled with water and the other filled with an identical looking liquid. Say they're both labeled 'Water', does the incorrect label falsify the correct one? He puts it better than I do, but that's the best way I can summarize it. In short, false ...

Eh, I don't know about this...
If this movie ends up being ridiculous, it's just going to be more fuel for the atheists.
