Re: Why is the Universe both so large and so old?
You can also say 'Why didn't God create everything in an instant, and only what's absolutely necessary to survival of life-forms on the Earth?' I'm not going to claim to know the mind of God, and this question is quite frankly irrelevant to whether or not God exists. If you read (or listen to) some ...

Re: Aliens
We'll have to agree to disagree. ;) The Bible seems to make the Earth out to be the main focus of everything from my perspective. Just because the Universe is large and old doesn't make me feel inclined to believe in a greater purpose. Just that God was quite wise, good, and amazing in his works. Yo...

Re: Aliens
It seems silly (to me) to look at the billions of galaxies found in every direction around us and say that God made all of that for tiny little us, on our planet orbiting our sun which is just one of quadrillions of stars. It definately seems like the universe was made for many purposes aside from ...

Re: Simultaneous causes.
So the argument is, the universe came into existence via an infinite number of causes that happened in the past? And the idea of a non-caused, all-powerful being is silly? I dont think that is what he was saying - What he was sayin is that the universe right at the beginning was in a timeless state...

Agreed entirely. I'd say most people in today's society would 'like' that quote.

Re: Scientist says division of science and faith an illusion
Dawkins, like many atheists (or more correctly in this case, anti-theists) hold to the position that it has been proven God doesn't exist. Thus, they claim they have no reason to respect a disagreement. In their eyes it's not just a disagreement of opinion/choice, but a factual error on the theist's...

Re: Movies
I look at it like this: If it's got content that will promote me to sin, I'll stay away from it. When it comes to swearing, I usually let it slide. There's really no way to get away from it, unless you stay away from all forms of media. And hearing someone swear doesn't make me feel inclined to swea...

Re: Are people generally aware of OECism?
Good question. I'm terrible at estimating things, but most people assume that all conservative Christians adhere to the YEC view. Quite a few are also aware of Christians that believe in evolution, too. But very few have heard of OEC. To be honest, I only heard about it a year or so ago. (Then agai...

Are people generally aware of OECism?
I'm curious as to what you guys have seen. It seems to me that most people (not just Christians) think that Christianity has to adhere to the 24-hour interpretation of Genesis. This question came up after I clicked on this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9V_2r2n4b5c&feature=feedrec_grec_in...

Likewise, I can' say I blame him.
No offense to YECers or anything.

Re: Do we really want to see Jesus?
If I'm understanding what you're asking correctly, I'd say this comes down to the battle against idolizing something in life above Jesus. It's always a topic you can turn to and see your shortcomings.

Re: Does God exist?
Alright, I have to admit, I'm rather disappointed with some the things that went on in this thread. I feel some of us are being rather sensitive, and taking the discussion away from where it should be. What I meant, remember it was late, was that everything I know about God makes him illogical. You ...

Re: Does God exist?
I'd love to jump into this argument, but I don't have the time to spend time on this right now. I can, however, introduce you to some links, CopaceticMan. Some of your issues are answered on the very front-page of this website for this forum, if you look through the articles. (godandscience.org) Ano...
