Re: YEC, OEC? How'd you get there?

dayage, Sorry again for the late reply. It's been another busy week. Anyway, while I think we might still disagree on several technical issues (i.e. How does one take Deuteronomy 5:15 to mean that the six days represent captivity in Egypt?), I've been mulling over some of your points and I've had a ...

Re: YEC, OEC? How'd you get there?

dayage, Before I begin, please know that I am not deliberately trying to be difficult or obtuse. However, your arguments just don't ring true for me. First of all, I never quite understood where you were going with the Numbers 7:10-84 reference. I think I was able to follow your logic well enough to...

Re: YEC, OEC? How'd you get there?

Thank you for the post, dayage. But when you look at Zechariah 14 don't you see the language indicators I was talking about? The problem in Exodus 20 isn't having "long" and "short" yoms in the same sentence or verse. But what part of language is used to determine between the two...

Re: YEC, OEC? How'd you get there?

Bart, First of all, thank you for your responses. Regardless of what we end up agreeing or disagreeing on, I appreciate dialoging with you. That being said, we see eye-to-eye on more things than one might think. All either of us wants is the truth. Whether God started creating thousands or billions ...

Re: YEC, OEC? How'd you get there?

Bart, I, in no way, meant to generalize anything and I apologize if it came across that way. I only meant that some OEC's have regarded the Exodus 20 issue in a rather cavalier manner. Of course I realize that not all OEC's treat it that way and that many YEC's do the same thing when arguing other p...

Re: YEC, OEC? How'd you get there?

I did not mean to imply that the arguments you presented before are weak. My frustration is not knowing enough about Hebrew to discern myself how strong or weak many arguments are, OEC or YEC. However, in the case of the Exodus 20 issue, I have not yet heard any really convincing arguments from OEC'...

Re: YEC, OEC? How'd you get there?

Sorry I have not replied sooner, June has been a crazy month! Anyway, Bart, I would be very interested to check out any sources you might have about the Church fathers and what they believed. I was initially intrigued when I first heard that many of them believed in long creation days. However, in m...

Re: YEC, OEC? How'd you get there?

Thank you for your response, dayage, and the time you must have put into it. Unfortunately, the points you offered did not bring up much that I haven't already encountered. I agree that Genesis 1:1-2 provides some difficulty for the young-earth perspective. I'd like to hear a YEC explain to me when ...

Re: YEC, OEC? How'd you get there?

I'm still in the process of "getting there" so I hope my post is still appropriate for this thread. Anyway, I grew up in a YEC background. AIG had always been viewed very positively by my family and church. Even though I went to a fairly conservative, evangelical college, I still encounter...
