Re: Love Wins by Rob Bell
We've become very full of our own importance in this present age. We don't deserve anything God is doing - and the more we try to lower God to our level, the more we lose out on the true miracle: that a God who is so much higher than us that He need not be involved in our lives would care about us....

Re: Love Wins by Rob Bell
Bad doctrine can be identified by how it promotes a, " Will not believe or accept God unless he bows to human sentiment and human sentiment’s test first or God can take a hike ," attitude. I agree that 'bad doctrine' can result from what our sentiments are telling us but it can also resul...

Re: Love Wins by Rob Bell
Well, I just finished Bell's book called Love Wins. In my opinion, Bell does not qualify as a 'heretic'. He does challenge some traditional views and I can see where Piper sees some of these as a problem. What I especially like about this book is that for myself, it emphasizes the 'now' in Christian...

Re: Love Wins by Rob Bell
I guess my response to using the Parable is this: If we can't use it to discuss the literal hell and instead it defines a figurative one, then its presentation is peculiar (especially for a parable); naming characters in the story. Aside from that though, this kind of goes into the same philosophic...

Re: Love Wins by Rob Bell
One other thing that might need to be taken into consideration is the parable of Lazerus and the man. There was no way, in that parable, to ever escape hell. The rich man obviously knew he should have done things differently (he doesn't want his brothers to follow him there), but he is never allowe...

Re: Love Wins by Rob Bell
I don't see him however, making the leap that others accuse him of, of stating that hell will not be an eternal condition of anyone. Still reading but my take on this so far is that although Bell thinks of hell as a state both during this life and after death, he also gets into what 'eternal' may o...

Re: Love Wins by Rob Bell
Bart I just listened to that hour and a half panel discussion that I referred to. I think it might have been more interesting if you had been there or someone to challenge further some of their beliefs. What still bothers me, and, if I recall correctly, you perhaps took some offense to my conclusion...

Re: What do you think God did before creating our universe?
Well thats just silly... Everyone knows God is a hardcore bowling fan. He wouldn't be caught dead on a golf course. 8-}2 True, in that God can't die. Bowling ? I suppose He would keep quite far from the gutters but also get bored with 300 games. Hmmm, God never threw a spare. Sorry, my glass of win...

Re: Love Wins by Rob Bell
Thanks Bart for your thoughtful review. I am just beginning the chapter on hell as I just got my copy in the mail. The main issue IMO, at this point, is more about the exclusivity views of traditional Christianity that Bell challenges. Bell emphasizes that at judgment time there will be many surpris...

Re: What do you think God did before creating our universe?
Here's a fun little question. I imagine all answers would have to be purely speculative since there is no answer based only on scripture. What do you think (or rather imagine) God did for pre-eternity before creating our universe? Has he created, sustained, and destroyed an infinite number of previ...

Re: Taking the name of the LORD God in vain
Can religious doctrine be guilty of taking His Name in Vain? Perhaps and who can say they are perfect in religious doctrine ? Can people use His name for evil purposes? Yes, as I believe Jesus refers to those who do this and He says He never knew them. Do you think this is a serious charge to be fo...

Love Wins by Rob Bell
Well, this new book has just been released and the reviews are pouring in. See the Internet discussion erupting. I'm sure at least a couple guys here on this forum will want a copy. ;) Here is a sample quote from the book - "Millions have been taught that if they don’t believe, if they don’t ac...

Re: You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it
There are just too many people who are really in need, good Christians, Christians who have sincere faith who ask for essentials, food, shelter, clothing, etc., who do not receive what they need. I've read a lot of commentaries on this one and I can't come up with a reasonable answer. The explanati...

Re: May 21, 2011
Yes, another guy picking a date. Harold Camping and his Family Radio is the source of this May 21, 2011 date. You can find how he calculates this in his literature, if interested. He believes that true believers will separate themselves from the local churches and denominations before this rapture o...
