Re: Our eternal destiny

Been away for quite a while but I see this topic keeps popping up. As I and others have debated before, we don't interpret 'eternity being placed in the heart of man' to mean immortality as a gift that God gives permanently to every man. Immortality is conditional. This best lines up with the charac...

Re: John Wesley's theology

Been away from this forum for sometime and did not read this entire thread. However, recently I read a whole different understanding regarding predestination using scriptural support in a book called 'God Without Religion' by Andrew Farley . He basically sees many of the scriptures that speak of pre...

Re: A view on suffering

For the believer, James, tells us that we should take a whole different perspective to our sufferings. There are sufferings that are consequences of our actions but we also may suffer for doing good deeds as well as suffering from things outside our control. When we suffer for things that are not co...

Re: Ken Ham "Disinvited" from several Home School Conference

I Cor 13 makes it clear that truth without love is of no value. And yet, debates just focus upon the logic and systematics of doctrinal positions. I think it's as legitimate to look at the manner in which those arguing for positions treat others who disagree with them. Do they show love? Are they g...

Re: Ken Ham "Disinvited" from several Home School Conference

This topic is much like the one on the nature of hell. I think B.W., myself and some others crossed the line on 'rudeness' for the same reasons that this post used - Something more must be said about why the approach in this book is necessary. In one sense, this is written with a heavy heart, and wi...

Re: Ken Ham "Disinvited" from several Home School Conference

What about 'turning the other cheek' ? Should we 'take vengence' or 'seek justice in some way' on someone who treats us wrongly or should we leave this for God to deal with ? I'm throwing this question into this thread as I have something similar I am going through at church. Some folks are acting i...

Re: Possible Major Christian discovery.

Speaking of "cults", IF this relic is dated to the 1st century and with its pictures of crosses ( in the shape of a T), I wonder how the JW's that say that Christ was impaled (nailed) on a stake (vertical post) and not a cross and that the cross was a 4th century pagan image adopted by th...

Re: Miracles? Some are incontestable, so...

I see we agree when we say 'the church' is made up of those in the 'household of God' as accordng to 1 Timothy 3:15 and we likely agree that more than RCs are in this household. So, when you say that the 'Catholic Church has a final interpretive authority', I would agree with you in that also as cat...

I see. Interesting how we use the term 'Church'. I thought the pillar of truth was Christ. O well, thats probably another topic.

Re: Miracles? Some are incontestable, so...

Since I hold to the opinion that the Catholic Church has final interpretive authority, I also hold that the Church is able to discern real miracles from demonic ones. So those that have been pronounced by the Church as miracles I (personally) have not the slightest doubt as to their origin. So, I'm...

Re: Miracles? Some are incontestable, so...

I guess this is where we interpret things in different ways. Jesus also said that He is 'the door'. Some things may not be correct to take in a literal sense. The 'miracle' spoken of in this post raises many questions and one is why this is not a repeatable occurrence. In the opening post the questi...

Re: Miracles? Some are incontestable, so...

Thanks Byblos but can I ask a question in layman's terms as some ofthis is over my head ?

When the bread and wine change to flesh and blood, can we not do an immediate stomach pump and prove they do ? I'm looking for some proof of this change that I can get my head around.

Re: Miracles? Some are incontestable, so...

I would appreciate a link to testable, observable and repeatable proof of transubstantiation. it would certainly verify a couple of things. There is no such thing. The bread and wine remain under the accident of bread and wine. Can you explain to me what you mean by 'under the accident of bread and...

Re: Love Wins by Rob Bell

What is the value of the atonement of Christ? What is the point of God coming as a man to die in the first place? Where is the gravity of sin? There are a number of values associated with the atonement. One being we are reconciled to God. It is sin that has us separated and Jesus died for our sins....

Re: Love Wins by Rob Bell

I created this long response but I was drifting back into our 'nature of hell' debates that are quite heavily discussed on other threads. I recommend these be considered as one checks out their views against those of other believers. A couple comments and questions, not that require answers but rath...
