4. Atheist in a Christian universe? I hadn't forgotten it - in fact that I am an atheist in a Christian universe is my working assumption for this thread so I was just mentioning the other three. Of course, the possibilities are endless... A Christian in an Islamic universe and so on ad infinitum. ...

I'd agree. Look at the unreliability and inconsistency of witness reports, for example. And look at the human ability to delude ourselves such as the phenomenon of believing one's own lies in order to fool others for our own benefit.

Just be so careful what you wish for! One day you could be walking on the footpath past a multi-story building where some people are moving out of an upstairs apartment. They have hired a crane to take the piano out through a ranch slider door to a narrow balcony and just as you go by a cable break...

But it does seem reasonable that there is at least truth and knowledge that are outside of the realm of an evolved mind doesn't it? It's certainly conceivable, but I find it highly doubtful. Take the rules of chess. They are an internally consistent set of rules with referents to pieces and a board...

I honestly don't see how that follows.

Apologies Thinker - it's just that KMart and I got into a discussion that was triggered by my response to something you said. Sorry to drag you back into it - I shouldn't have done that. I'd hate to damage the fragile trust you and I have developed and will be more considerate next time.

Now, you'd say I'm making man look superior and better than he is-but if you were wrong-me saying man is intelligent wouldn't make man look-superior-it would paint an honest picture of him-while your views would degrade man. Labeling people does indeed change perspective. Consider your keenness to ...

Thanks for the thoughtful responses guys. Beliefs are an emotive issue and both theists and atheists are often guilty of projecting stereotypes on each other rather than actually listening to each other. I certainly can't complain of anyone doing the former to me in this thread and I do hope that's ...

Suppose for a moment that the Christian triune God actually does exist in all His awesomeness, powerful might and majesty, and that I am just one of his billions of little created beings. Okay. If that was so, do you think it could be just a little bit arrogant of me to expect Him to meet my specif...

If you trace back our exchange in this thread you'll find that someone did. Above, on the previous page, a Christian (naming no names) said to an atheist (you'll never guess who) " we are capped off at human knowledge " within the context of trying to persuade the atheist that Christianity...

One could indeed argue that Christians have a superiority complex - for example because they believe this entire vast universe was finely-tuned just for us humans. Conversely, one could argue atheists have a superiority complex as you have done above. But there is a fine line between feeling superio...

Not at all - jump right in and thank you for sharing your perspective.

It sounds like the existence of atheists is a slight irritation for you. If it's any consolation, that atheistic superiority will be wiped off our faces in the afterlife, assuming your religion to be correct.

He clearly stated he desires to not become religious unless 1 or 2 of the following are required: 1.) Goes To Heaven 2.) Goes To Hell 3.) Gets A Visit From Jesus In This Life I heard about the conversion of Saul in acts 9 today. Seems like my prerequisite that Jesus (should he exist) make himself e...
