Who Put That 'Star' There?

As we know, there are two accounts of the birth of Jesus - Matthew dealt with the 'star' that eventually led the "wise men" (astrologers from Babylon) to where Jesus was a living in a house as a young child. Luke dealt with the God's angel who told the shepherds that Jesus had just been bo...

(Adam and Eve) didn't actually die physically that very day(Genesis 2:17). I've heard the following explanation of the above "day" that suggests that that "day" was not necessarily a 24-hour day. Genesis chapter 1 mentions the several days days that were involved in the creation...

Hi August, When I asked what "the knowledge of good and bad" had reference to... It refers to morality. It gave man the ability to distinguish between good and evil on a moral level. Can you give an example or two of a moral good and moral bad knowledge; something(s) that Adam and Eve coul...

What was the "knowledge"?

This may have already been answered already but I can't find it... Specifically, what was the "knowledge" of what good and what was bad? Or, what was the "good and bad" knowledge of that made them like God, "knowing good and bad"? From what August explained, this knowle...

The Tree of Life

Hi August, I mentioned to FFC that I wouldn't be surprised if you didn't agree with anything I said. But you said to me... I somewhat agree with your reading of the teaching in Gen 2:17. Well, 1 out 2 isn't bad! Yes, I remember that verse in 3:22. I figured you knew it was there. I don't suppose the...

Hi FFC, Don, that sounds right to me in my spirit. I was thinking the same thing and then I read your post. It goes along with the idea of total dependence on God for all things. Although I would have to add that even now in our sinful condition we still need God to tell us the difference. Probably ...

"The Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Bad" - Why?

If Adam continued to obey, how we would have known good? You can only know that something is good if you also have knowledge of bad. The only way that Adam and Eve received that knowledge (of what was good and bad) was through experience, by eating from the tree. What I have noticed in Genesis chap...

What if Adam & Eve had obeyed?

August asked, If (Adam had obeyed God) , how would we have been able to tell people that God is good, and that He awaits us with open arms if we turn to Him and accept His free gift? [/i] Seems to me if Adam had continued to obey God then nobody would need to "tell people that God is good"...

Everyone, Here is something I found quite interesting to me. It has to do with the difference between what God said to Adam in verse 2:16, and the way Satan asked about what God had said to Adam in verse 3:1. What God said was positive. But the question Satan asked was negative. God told Adam that h...

August, August: You said… Satan put a choice before them. That choice was obviously absent before. I can't seem to find a choice that Satan gave Eve. I can see the choice that God put before Adam: 1) Obey God and live, or (2) Disobey God and die. — Genesis 2:16,17. But all I can see Satan saying is ...

Hi August, You said... When Adam was created, he only knew good . He only knew God, and knew nothing of good and evil, and therefore could not distinguish between good and evil . But what about Genesis 2:16, 17? It looks like God was explaining to Adam not only what was good, but was was bad (or evi...

FFC!

You said...

"Don, I'm scared now....because I actually agree with you here."

Wow! I actually felt a little tingle when I read that.

Hi John, You said... If I am to believe in an omniscient God and that God's plan of salvation was formed before everything was and did not depend on the whims of man, however perfect, then I must say I can't see how Adam had any choice (or free will). Is there a way of looking at what on back there ...

John, I had said... If I had been (in the Garden of Eden) I don't see what would have been so difficult about leaving that one single tree alone. You then said... Don, If you are so sure you can do that (i.e. obey God by leaving that "tree of life" alone), how about we make a wager right n...

Turgonian, I had said that the Bible says that the only thing God cannot do is lie. You then said, "Almost all theologians agree that God cannot do things which are logically impossible, e.g. conceive of square circles." That sounds right. And so I went back an looked at Hebrews 6:18 and n...
