Re: Quick clearification question about Hawking's theory...
Also I was going to add, is his theory or theories on the origin of the universe even testable? I heard from a agnostic friend of mine that the only thing that needs to be worked out is the math and he thinks it is only a matter of time until it gets worked out. Once it is worked out Hawking can the...

Re: Quick clearification question about Hawking's theory...
Ok, so the scientific consensus (not Hawking necessarily) thinks the universe did have a beginning, but yet was caused from nothing by nothing???? I thought for the most part the scientific consensus as far as what caused the big bang is so far "we don't know". Now the best theories from w...

Re: Quick clearification question about Hawking's theory...
Ok that where his belief in the multiverse comes in? Also isn't the scientific evidence in favor of a actual beginning to our universe? If that is indeed what the evidence shows, then in this case, Hawking is going against the scientific evidence and the scientific consensus.

Re: Quick clearification question about Hawking's theory...
Ok, after reading that I'm even more confused. It looks like at first he says everything came from stars, which is ludicrus because where did the stars come from? If they came from dark matter, than where did the dark matter come from? And if it came from something else where did it come from and so...

Quick clearification question about Hawking's theory...
Hey there, I've got a quick question about Hawking's origin of the universe theory. Does he hold to the idea that the universe or some kind of natural matter or force has always existed or does he hold to the view that the universe and everything had a beginning but the universe and or whatever was ...

Re: Stephen Hawking on Heaven
He's just like Richard Dawkins, they are both great in their SPECIFIC SCIENTIFIC FIELD, but when they both try to make philosophical statements they fall flat on their face.

Re: There is no science...
You do however, believe in a eventual afterlife right? I ask this because I ran across someone on another forum claiming to be a "christian" of some sorts, but he denies all the supernatural, thinks the bible is uninspired, thinks heaven and hell are both metaphors and when someone dies ju...

Re: There is no science...
If you all really want to have a discussion about this, here is a old transcript from a thread I started on this very topic at another message board: Ok, the things I have come across thus far in favor of a immaterial soul are Philosophical arguments such as objective experience and free will Argume...

Re: There is no science...
If chemical reactions don't account for brain activity, how come mind altering drugs affect the brain and our consciousness? All they do is create a chemical reaction in the brain. Neurologists have also been able to test which of the brain do what and how they work (including the parts that accoun...

Re: Leviticus 19:28 says Tatoos are a No No
Now in my personal opinion I really detest tatoos, especially on women, and especially right around the lower back (you know the kind I'm talking about). y:-& But I was wondering in terms of how God sees it, if I'm reading the verse in Revelation right, doesn't Christ's second coming involve Him...

Hey guys, I recently have seen this "mini chat box" at the bottom of the main screen of the message board. Is this a new feature or has this been around for awhile and I just haven't noticed it? Also how likes to use it and what times are you all usually on there talking? I would love to c...

I agree Gman, how can any sane person happily accept the existential implications of naturalism and or atheism? I just don't see how. And I've asked many of them over the past few years how they cope with the implications and all I get are cheap answers like "just live for the moment" or &...

Yeah I notice it too, not only that, they never seem to show WHY we are stupid. You would think most of them would be able to type in a few one liner arguments like "the problem of evil" or "psuedogenes as proof for evolution" since there are enough character space to allow for i...
