Re: The nature of suffering
Does everyone agree with this: "Suffering often indicates that God is setting us free from something so that we can follow and embrace him more deeply."

The nature of suffering
I've been reading So You Don't Want To Go To Church Anymore , which is a novel by Wayne Jacobsen and Dave Coleman. For those of you who haven't read it, it's about a pastor named Jake who is becoming disillusioned with his church and questions his faith. Along comes an enigmatic figure named John wh...

Re: Delusion?
I can sympathize with you completely. You are not the only Christian to feel like this. I often feel like my heart is Christian but my head is agnostic. I'll read a Christian book or read Christian websites to find answers to my questions, and they'll satisfy me for a little while but then my doubts...

Sexless marriage
I didn't know where to put this. I guess it's a a prayer request and a need to vent at the same time. I am feeling so low at the moment, I really need to talk. I am living in a sexless marriage due to my husband's health. We have never had a "normal" sexlife and I knew my husband had troub...

Re: Speaking in Tongues
I believe most people do it with a sincere heart and by that I mean they think it's real. I don't feel comfortable doing it, though. I'm not going to make noises just to try and fit in with my church. If and when the spirit does take me, I'll do it, but as of right now, I have never felt the urge to...

What made you decide to leave?
This question is for those of you who have left church. What made you decide to leave in the end? Was it one big thing or many little things? I am thinking of leaving my church of six months. If I'm completely honest, it's because some of the congregation has let me down. No one has been openly rude...

Re: Jealousy and resentment in the church
I've been reading The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis. Last night, I got to the part where the demon Screwtape encourages his nephew to send his "client" from church to church, looking for that elusive something... I had to laugh to myself.

Re: Jealousy and resentment in the church
Mum1983, You posted this post back in October, about the same church: http://discussions.godandscience.org/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=36402&p=103936#p103936 It doesn't sound like a healthy environment. Do you happen to have a website for this church that you could post here? Yes, I remember posti...

Re: Jealousy and resentment in the church
This is a perfect small-church example of how the difference between "religion" and"the church" can be very great. We all know about how the big, multi-million dollar churches with "celebrity" preachers seem to have lost touch with the congregation and to their religio...

Re: Jealousy and resentment in the church
. So my question would be, are you in a larger urban area or a small town? And next, have you thought and making church in your own home? I'll explain latter what I mean by this... If you are from a large urban area - you can look around. There are no perfect churches due to imperfect people that w...

Jealousy and resentment in the church
Hello guys, I've been going to my church for six months now. There have been so many times I've thought of leaving 1) When one of the church leaders told me she believed the cord was wrapped around her baby's neck at birth, because she had freemasons in the family 2) When a baby was dedicated at our...

Re: Who makes people deaf/blind?
Where in the New Testament does it indicate that deafness/blindness was caused by impure spirits either exclusively or even primarily? I recall immediately that Bartimeaus for example when Jesus was questioned as to the cause of his blindness (who sinned, this man or his parents) Jesus indicated th...

Who makes people deaf/blind?
Exodus 4:11 The LORD said to him, “Who gave human beings their mouths? Who makes them deaf or mute? Who gives them sight or makes them blind? Is it not I, the LORD? Yet, in the New Testament, we are led to believe the deafness/blindness was caused my impure spirits. Now, most of us believe it's caus...

Re: Fear God more than love him
Thank you. I have ordered the book through Amazon. It's been one crazy day today. First, a big fight with my husband, then our children's dedication and my Baptism, then my daughter got sick at church and has a bad tummy bug. I just feel like I'm being attacked from all sides today. I so long to hav...
