Re: Who is John the Elder?

About a year ago I did a personal study on the Authorship and Date of the Gospel of John. Both the internal and external evidence demonstrate pretty compellingly (for me at least) that John the Apostle was the author of the Gospel of John. Below is a quick summary of my notes. A. External Evidence ...

Re: Who is John the Elder?

Well, you can go a step further really. See, nowhere does the GOJ state WHO the beloved disciple was BUT only one person is mentioned in the GOJ as the one that Jesus loves and that is Lazarus. This has made some conclude that the GOJ was passed on by Lazarus to the writer of the GOJ ( which could ...

Re: Who is John the Elder?

Here is a decent discussion of the issues surrounding whether or not John the Apostle and John Elder (Presbyter) are one and the same. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_the_Presbyter Some relevant quotes from the article John the Presbyter was an obscure figure of the early Church who is either di...

Re: Epistle of Peter to James

Honestly, you need to be very mindful of the writings outside the NT because it is very easy to get mislead into thinking they are valid, when they are not. And they are not valid because they are outside the canon, no that is not the reason. They are valid because they teach false teachings, like ...

Re: Epistle of Peter to James

That epistle is not part of the NT. If I recall correctly, it is dated to much later than the NT writings. It is not written in the same literary style as the NT letters of Peter. He quotes Matthew: "The heavens and the earth shall pass away, but one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass fro...

Re: Garden of Even in the Bible vs Qur'an

I think we all can agree that God's plan was that we were to have a "paradise" in earth. A paradise where mankind obeyed God. Adam and Eve had it made; God took care of them and their needs; they had a perfect relationship with God, until they disobeyed Him and they along with the rest of ...

Re: John 1, and the Word was with God

John 1: In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. What does it mean to say that the Word was WITH God? Thanks. It simply means that the Word is distinct from God the Father, and God The Holy Spirit. Theos can refer to God the Father, God The Son, or God The Hol...

Garden of Even in the Bible vs Qur'an

I'm not sure this is the right place for this topic, but I found out something in the past week that I had never known before in all the years I have studied Islam. I was looking at the Qur'an account of the Garden of Eden through the eyes of the Bible and something went over my head. I learned this...
