Re: Teaching Creationism in Schools
so I apologize for leaving this out so long without providing the links...It turns out that you need a subscription to access the journals in which the papers I was referencing were published. I can read them because my university grants me access, but it would be rather un-helpful to post links tha...

Re: Alice in Evolutionland
Haha, someone put waaaay too much effort into this... And as for the whole website, it took me about 5 minutes to find a laundry list of inaccuracies, misrepresentations, and lies about what the Theory of Evolution is and what it says. And for a website claiming to provide scientific arguments, ther...

Re: Advocating Atheism
I wasn't comparing atheists to Christians. Well yeah...I made the comparison to point out how ignorant and blind it is to say "atheists these days are all stupid and uneducated" when I could use the exact same reasoning to say that all Christians are stupid and uneducated. But I don't, be...

Re: Advocating Atheism
Yes, they seem more vocal than when I was a militant atheist 25 years ago. Not necessarily, there could just be a greater amount of vocal atheists out there. Most atheists I know are as quiet about their faith as the average Christian. Saying atheists today are loud just because a handful of atheis...

Re: Teaching Creationism in Schools
Jlay, I'll get back to this more later tonight (provided the world does not end), but when I said that many teachers choose not to teach evolution/teach some form of creationism, I'm basing it on studies and surveys done by both my professor of the course, and other academic groups around the countr...

Teaching Creationism in Schools
So I just finished up my fall semester of university classes, including one class in particular that was very interesting, and very relevant to a popular topic on this forum. It was titled "Understanding the Evolution-Creationism Controversy." It was taught by a professor well known for hi...

Re: The fight for free religion
I just got done watching the documentary. Very informative piece indeed, especially for someone like me that enjoys the study of history and religion. I don't know how much debate there is to have from this...it seemed like a fairly basic description of how the Constitution and Bill of Rights were f...

Since AIDS was probably invented by the Lord suddenly and without warning other than the Bible, to punish homosexuals and the promiscuous This statement is bothersome at best...Our education system at its finest right there. He can also at any time, without advance notice, create new cooking resist...

Re: God, eden, two sinners and the cave men
If Ross doesn't believe that the molecular/genetic estimates are truly accurate, then why does he suggest a beginning of the human race that coincides with the genetic evidence? That seems like an awkward way to go about things.

Death Penalty?
I'm certain this topic has been discussed here before, but I'm curious as to how the lot of you feel about the death penalty for certain crimes. I ask in the wake of talking to a pro-death penalty group on campus (well they weren't students, but they were visiting my school). They were a highly cons...

Re: Robert Ballard finding evidence of a Global Flood
Quick question, were there people on every land mass in the world at that time? Because if not, a global flood doesn't logically add up I don't know the answer to this, quite confident someone here does however SB Depends on when you think the global flood happened. If you take to to be less than 6...

Re: Robert Ballard finding evidence of a Global Flood
Ballard discovered the remains of the Titanic and I believe he has made several other important archaeological discoveries related to ancient civilizations. He's certainly respected within his field, though I personally don't know a ton about him.

Re: Robert Ballard finding evidence of a Global Flood
It sounds interesting, but it also sounds kind of iffy to me personally. I don't doubt that this guy is good at what he does (underwater archaeology), but frankly I'm not so impressed with what the article says. The title seems to suggest that this is all about a global flood, but both the archaeolo...

Re: Theory of Evolution exposed
And I don't deny that it would appear that, as you say, we are something beyond our genes. I would argue (though many people might disagree with me on this) that many animals, particularly mammals, display a significant amount of social and emotional capacity that humans thought only we were capable...

Re: Theory of Evolution exposed
I guess I'll agree with you, Paul, but scientifically speaking, I can't think of any way to legitimately introduce "purpose" to evolution. We see evolution driven by variation, mutations, gene flow, and natural selection. All of those things are very real, and about as factual as gravity. ...
