Re: darkmatter25

Darkmatter25 is interesting (and somewhat crude, yes). He basically spins logical and moral arguments based around the Christian God and pokes holes in them. Some of the videos are less than convincing, while others are much more thought-provoking. For example, he posits that we take superheroes fro...

Re: "6 Reasons to NOT Send Your Daughter to College"

actually, the site says they advocate strict Catholic teachings. Most of the stuff on the site is about protecting the "biblical family structure", including the general submission of women to men and, apparently, making sure women are uneducated compared to men.

"6 Reasons to NOT Send Your Daughter to College"

I saw a friend post this on facebook the other day, and, needless to say, I don't agree with it at all. http://www.fixthefamily.com/blog/6-reasons-to-not-send-your-daughter-to-college Essentially, this organization lays out a lengthy and detailed argument for why parents should not allow their daugh...

Re: Eyeless fish disprove intelligent design?

These types of examples are excellent examples of adaptation via evolution. The eyeless fish are intriguing because the change is not cosmetic at all, and in fact is a rather major physiological change. It doesn't "prove" evolution on its own, but they certainly contribute to the total col...

Re: What's so bad about being gay?

That is why God frowns upon being gay and warns against this lifestyle. There is a militancy associated with being gay. I have to say that is quite a broad statement. Being gay does not make you an evil, militant religion-hater. This statement is pure stereotyping based on the loudest members of a ...

Re: start of the universe question

Ok, let me get this straight. If the scientists are able to come up with this theory and make it work, and if everything checks out, would this at least, to them, prove that God does not exist and or that His intervention is not required for the universe's origin? Where did you get that from? That'...

Re: The Big Bang - Why Is It Controversial?

It is true that many of the times I've seen Christians bash the big bang model, they have been arguing from a young-universe point of view. It seems that most of the examples of old-earth criticisms are more based around the origin of the universe as opposed to the big bang itself, which is more abo...

Re: The Big Bang - Why Is It Controversial?

From your article:
The Big Bang theory does not leave God out of the picture, since it is merely a scientific account of how our universe has dramatically changed since its infancy.
This was more or less the point I tried to make. I'll read the rest later, it seems interesting.

The Big Bang - Why Is It Controversial?

The Big Bang model is a prevailing model of the beginning of our universe and its early stages of rapid expansion from an ultra-dense state. In general terms, it is the only major scientific explanation for what happened during the early universe to make the universe how it is today. I've noticed bo...

Re: Geographical Map of Atheism

I understand this effect. Didn't someone say that the most effective way to make an atheist is to raise him in a Catholic School? I was surprised that they stayed there. I don't know about you, but if I was a Christian or Atheist in Saudi Arabia I would be getting out as fast as I can. The Catholic...

Re: start of the universe question

1over137 is correct. Scientists who study the origins of the universe and the early universe make use of all the natural forces of the universe in their calculations and simulations. The math and science is generally beyond my understanding (I study biology and chemistry, not physics), but I've neve...

Re: Geographical Map of Atheism

I'm surprised there were so many in Saudi Arabia. Well I have to guess that most of them aren't what you would call openly atheistic. That probably wouldn't be legal or well thought of in Saudi Arabia. But I think you'll find throughout history that ultra-strict theocratic nations tend to breed hea...

Re: Finally Picked a creation stance.

I had a question come to mind for Christians here who accept "evolution" as they believe it is taught in a modern education today... 1) Who here thinks Dawkins, or any full-blooded biologist the same, would believe your "Theistic Evolution" could be passed off as "Evolution...

Re: Is Cameron Macauley's story true?

I tend to view stories like this (and there have been plenty) as I do with near-death experiences and other claims of supernatural occurrences. That is, I'm generally skeptical about them, especially with how vague and contradictory most of them seem to be. Cases of reincarnation are especially toug...

Re: What about vestigiality? How can this be explained?

Depends on your perspective. If you believe everything was created as-is just thousands of years ago, then vestigial organs and features in organisms make zero sense. Especially with how numerous examples of vestigial features are, especially in animals. Of course, if you believe in evolution (which...
