Re: sin that leads to death

hey all I've been gone for awhile learning and growing exponentially and, well I'm trying to understand this discussion. we are all in agreement that salvation, that is believing in the sacrifice of the messiah, is something given to us more than something we work for, right? like a gift? Unlike a ...

Re: sin that leads to death

Dells, perhaps you could clarify what you meant here, so we won't have any confusion: However, works do play a role in salvation. I don't want to put words in your mouth, but would you say that you mean, works don't play a role in salvation, but works are a natural fruit of one who is saved. Why wo...

Re: sin that leads to death

So what you're saying is that some sins are worse than others? Yes. http://www.saintaquinas.com/mortal_sin.html What is a Mortal Sin? "Amen, amen, I say to you: If any man keep my word, he shall not see death forever." —John 8:51 The Distinction between two types of sin All sin is an offe...

I can just do whatever I want

So, let's pretent that I was a member of the Once Saved, Always Saved crowd. My views might be: "Since I'm saved, I'm good to go. I can do whatever I want. There's no sin that can undo my salvation, so I'm going to have my fun while the going is good. Time to load up on some big sins!" How...

Re: How do you know the Bible is inspired?

I just have a quick question.. how do we know the church has an authority from founding without using the Bible (since you're trying to establish the inspiration of the bible without being circular)? Further, how do we know that Jesus established the church with Peter as its rock without the Bible?...

Re: sin that leads to death

But that brings up the question, yet again, how much do you have to sin in order for it to be the last straw? How much sin is too much? This is not a Catholic view of salvation. Catholics do not believe that you can save yourself through works, and we definatley do not believe that salvation or lac...

Re: How do you know the Bible is inspired?

On what authority do we know that the Bible is inspired? The Bible itself doesn't directly say so, so it's inspiration and inerrancy must rest on the statement of some other authority. What authority? You mean the Pope??? Still have no idea what you mean by your statement- ...so it's inspiration an...

Re: How do you know the Bible is inspired?

Please guys, both these links badly misrepresent what the Catholic Church has always taught in regards to salvation. If you have a copy of Catechism of the Catholic Church , look up article #846 which quite clearly states that a Christian outside of the RCC and a Catholic Christian who does not per...

Re: How do you know the Bible is inspired?

No one can tell you or prove to you that the Bible is inspired If it can't be proved that the Bible is inspired, how I am to have certain faith in something that is uncertain? Look at it from another angle. Imagine a person living in a country that has both Muslims and Christians living in it. This...

Re: How do you know the Bible is inspired?

Dell the argument from personal revelation is not only wrong historically but wrong biblically because for the first 1500 years of Christianity , Christians from the earliest church fathers like ignatius of Antioch and polycarp (who were the disciples or students of John the apostle) never believed...

Re: How do you know the Bible is inspired?

Self-responsibilty sucks, but such is life. If one views that, how we follow the bible is crucial for our salvation then would YOU put that in the hands of someone else and follow THEIR view of things? We do the best we can with what we have AND ask guidence from the Holy SPirit in making the decis...

Re: How do you know the Bible is inspired?

Is that what 2 Timothy 3:16 really says? Remember that Paul wrote his epistles before the rest of the nt was written. Thus this passage proves at most the inspiration of the old testament. And all the "Thus says the Lord"s assert only inspiration of that particular phrase. There is no &qu...
