Re: Please Introduce Yourself Here
Hello everyone. I doubt anyone on here remembers me, but I used to spend a lot of time on this forum. I've been AWOL for a few years, but my brain is itching for some thoughtful, respectful philosophy. I'm glad to see that several veteran members are still active!

Re: The uselessness of science
My point is that I truly dislike people that try to use science to DISPROVE things, then go about stating things like "science isn't in the business of proving things Yea...like I said I read it differently when I realized you were the OP. I've stalked this board quite a bit over the years and...

Re: The God Delusion
I'm tempted to launch into an explanation of the premise I characterized as seemingly unfair but logically necessary, but I want to hold off on that. <br> Jac, I'm curious to hear your explanation of this premise. The argument seems familiar...maybe something that was discussed in one of my philoso...

Re: The uselessness of science
Bah! I just realized that Paul was the OP, and it made me read the post in an entirely different way. My first impression, even with reading the comments, was that the post was intended as an argument that science is actually useless...

Re: The uselessness of science
When I was much younger I went through a phase where I spent a lot of time drinking and smoking weed with a bunch of people in my friend's basement. We would have lengthy, elaborate philosophical conversations...including one which led us to the brilliant revelation that science is useless because i...

"Logical" reason that homosexual sex is a sin?
Hello everyone, I was visiting a debate discussion forum, and a poster (who identified herself as a lesbian) asked what "logical" reason God would have to make homosexual sex a sin. She argued that "everything else that is described as sinful has pretty obvious harmful consequences; d...

Re: Pro-Life: The Logical Stance Belief or Non-Belief
I like your strategic choice for thread location, Kurieuo! I agree that it is important to recognize the large-scale moral and social implications of abortion legislation, and I hope the links you provided remind people that the pro-life movement is not exclusively driven by religious motivations. H...

Re: Animals have consciousness too
Eureka About morality and what is good and bad,I think its an evolutionary trait, for example we had to team with other people in order to survive so we had to be nice with everyone and be a group and work together Maybe having a conscience is an evolutionary trait, and I honestly don't know if cats...

Re: Animals have consciousness too
Hello Car, I think you may be mixing up the words "conscious" and "conscience." Consciousness is an awareness of what is around you, and I don't believe the Bible says that this trait only belongs to humans! I think anyone with a pet would agree that animals can be very aware of ...

Re: Making the right choice
I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around God forgiving all kinds of transgressions except for coming down on the wrong side of a difficult choice. It strikes me as out of character for God, though I admit, there is much about God, no man can understand. Do others have difficulty with this, an...

Re: The Unforgivable Sin
But there is ANOTHER sin I consider rather unforgivable: It's the day after your birthday, for which your wife made the most incredibly delicious chocolate layer cake, that you had several slices of that same evening. Next day, during work, about all you can think about was how awesome that amazing...

Re: The Unforgivable Sin
Interesting...thank you all! It seems from your responses that "denying the Holy Spirit" refers to the lifelong rejection of Christ rather than a sin that can be committed on a single occasion. I'm surprised that my understanding of blasphemy was so distorted, but obviously your responses ...

Re: The Unforgivable Sin
Then how do you interpret the biblical description of this sin as "unforgivable"?
