First, the NIV omits this passage, so it might not have been in God's Word in the first place. Second, it doesn't mean that at all: the text says 'God came to save that which is lost', not 'God came to save everything that is lost'. Sinners are lost; God came to save sinners (but not all); God came...

Turgy, (Sorry for the shortening of you name earlier, I had not realized the implications  :) ) My point in reference to Mat 18:11 is that this text is in direct contradiction to the Calvinists doctrine. I guess what I was trying to point out is that God's will and God's desire is not necessar...

B.W., I hear what you have been saying. The problem is that you are trying to say two opposite things, as you have done so here as well, ie. God offers the choice in his call. IT IS GOD'S CALL THAT SAVES Which is it B.W.? Does God offer the choice, or does He save. If He merely offers the choice an...

Matthew 18:11 For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost. Luke 19:10 For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost. So Turg, From what you are saying and if you include the scriptures above: Then only those that are (or will be) saved were lost. That would mean the r...

Prov 16:1 1 The preparations of the heart belong to man, But the answer of the tongue is from the LORD. 9 A man's heart plans his way, But the LORD directs his steps. If God knows the hearts of men, which other scripture seems to indicate, then from these verse above, Judas prepared his own heart, b...

PL wrote: Read Hebrews Chapter 8 (particularly verses 8-13). The New Covenant is with God's People, the Church, the true Israel of God. (In fact, the Church always has been Israel, even in the OT). That however, has been nearly exhausted in the End Times Forum. Whether you are correct or not here is...

Psalm 33:10-12 "The LORD brings the counsel of the nations to nothing; He makes the plans of the peoples of no effect . The counsel of the LORD stands forever, The plans of His heart to all generations. Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, The people He has chosen as His own inheritanc...

PL, Proverbs 21:1 "The king's heart is in the hand of the LORD; Like the rivers of water, he turns it wherever he will." We are not all kings. Ezekiel 36:26-27 "And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your fles...

FFC wrote: PL, couldn't there be some middle ground between God's soveriegnty and man's choice? I would think Proverbs 16:1,9 would seem to indicate this some middle ground. 1The plans of the heart belong to man, but the answer of the tongue is from the LORD. 9The heart of man plans his way, but the...

Just to clarify, Calvinists do not follow a man named Calvin I realize you do not intend to follow Calvin. But I wonder if your theology would have been different if Calvin or Augustine's works had not existed. I have not seen you personally do this, but I know many Calvinists look toward documents...

PL, I think understand the Calvinists meaning behind why someone could interpret the verses that say "whole world" or "All men" to mean just the elect. But none of the scriptures in context seem to support this idea. First, but not necessarily most important. Just because I am sp...

Quote: Last point: Some Calvinists will say that the Atonement was only for the elect and to say that it is for all would be called universalism. but that is incorrect. Atonement was for all.(1 John 2:2) But only those that applied the Blood of the Atonement would be the elect. At the first passove...
