Re: Is this what it's like to experience God?

Thank you Dan, 1over137 and SB for sharing your experiences. And thank you Dan for your encouragement.

PaulSacramento - how do you distinguish between experiencing God's Love and experiencing the presence of God? What different feelings if any have you felt between these experiences?

Is this what it's like to experience God?

In my early teens I discovered the ability to access what I call my "place of inner peace". It's difficult to describe in words how it feels. I don't meditate, I'm not in any high or low emotional state, I'm not smoking anything funny ;), I just sit quietly for a few moments and I'm "...

Re: Anthropocentrism

Dan - you're right, the context of my original question must assume the existence of God. My second post in this thread was confusing. I think your earlier response that God may well be busily dealing or not dealing with other matters in the universe fully addresses the original (and in retrospect n...

Re: Is the Dalai Lama going to hell?

Thanks everyone for your responses. Dan - thank you in particular, your response and the link you provided was very helpful. Reading the highest-voted bible verses on getting into heaven in that link, I note with interest that (a) John 3:16 and Roman 10:9 set out sufficient but not necessary conditi...

Re: Anthropocentrism

Hi 1over137 - I guess I meant to say I believe we are an insignificant species relative to the temporal and spatial scale of the universe. b.t.w. I like your quote from Thessalonians!

Is the Dalai Lama going to hell?

I understand some Christians believe God carves out an exception for non-believers who have not had the opportunity, or possess the capacity, to accept Jesus. But surely someone like the Dalai Lama, who hobnobs with the likes of Rowan Williams and Desmond Tutu, wouldn't fall into that group. And I t...

Re: Anthropocentrism

Dan and Sam1995 - I can readily see that there would be no conflict if you assume that an omnipresent, omniscient God exists. But what if the starting point is to not assume the existence or non-existence of God, but to base the reasonable inquiry on what is presently observable/measurable in our hu...

Re: Anthropocentrism

Thank you for all your responses, especially Sam1995 and theophilus. Sam1995 - I don't get why an omnipotent God would need to wait billions of years to get our planet in a perfect state for humanity to flourish. theophilus - You say "[o]nly things that can be observed or tested scientifically ...

Anthropocentrism

One question for scientific-minded Christians: How do you reconcile the anthropocentricity of the Bible with generally accepted scientific facts about the world around us? For example, the earth is around 4.5 billion years old, and the fossil record shows prehistoric creatures have lived for hundred...
