Reading the thread on Christian/secular music it looks like we've got a few guitar fans here. There was even mention of best guitarists in the world.

Would be nice to hear some of your favourite guitar moments or players. It surprises me how many 'best guitar players ever" I seem to miss.

A friend recently introduced me to the music of Peter Green of early Fleetwood Mac fame, B.B King apparently claimed he was the only guitarist who could make the hairs on the back of his neck stand up. White men can play the blues!

I'm a big electric guitar fan, been playing guitar for over 25 years.

Jimi Hendrix, Jeff Beck and Roy Buchanan are my favorites.

I took my inexpensive Lyon Strat and replaced the pickups with Texas Specials and a little work on the bridge – sounds sweet. You can take cheaper electric Guitars, as long as neck and frets are good, and with little effort turn them into very nice machines…

I like Gresh hollow body sound as well as the old Strat…

I play mostly Acoustic nowadays…

I mostly play acoustic too.

I've got a nice Martin acoustic/electric that I picked up almost 2 years ago. I've got a black electric Epiphone Sheraton II that I picked up in early spring, but it seems like I barely every play it. (Just at gigs and formal practice)
I'm having trouble finding the right effects to use that fits in with my band. I think it's because of my FX pedal though.
I'm much more comfortable with the acoustic in general.

My favorite older guitarist besides Robert Johnson was probably Jimmy Page. He was sloppy as heck, but I loved the dirty style. As far as newer guitarists go, I really like Matthew Bellamy from Muse. He plays some really impressive leads whilst singing simultaneously- no easy feat! I also really like Omar Rodriguez-Lopez from The Mars Volta. He just does every possible thing to make the guitar not sound at all like a guitar.
It was really interesting watching him play it live when I saw Soundgarden in Chicago this summer. (The Mars Volta opened for them.) He played it in a really odd way occasionally- like it was a completely different instrument.

I don't think I could name a "Best Ever." There's way too many greats.

Michael Hedges passed away a number of years ago, but he was amazing. Tommy Emanuel does things with the acoustic guitar that will blow your mind.

Guitar playing wouldn't be what it is today without Chet Atkins.

Yes, Page was sloppy, but very innovative. He did some very cool, unorthodox things for a Rock guitarist.

Mayer is very talented player, and song writer today, although I'm not a huge fan.

Yep, Drew was wearing a kilt. He is proud of his Scottish routes. (Napier clan) In fact I believe his dad flies back to Scotland twice a year to play golf.

Flavor Bud Living has long been of my favourite guitar solos, just recently found out it was performed by one of the greats, Gary Lucas. I never knew he was once part of The Magic Band, makes sense.

I like the Lead Guitarist in the band Steely Dan, especially on the song 'My Old School' . I think my standard favorites for actual ability have always been Segovia , Jose Feliciano , Hendrix, Clapton, and Van Halen (ability only...and not the type of music on those last three) .

Do you like MegaDeaths music ? Isnt their music message one of rebellion, personal destruction, hopelessness, apathy toward what is good and right , dissent of God and Godly values....and the like ? Besides that, doesnt a few guys bellowing and growling at you in virtually non-understanable words as a conglomeration of sheer painful noise plays....a sure recipe for a subsequent headache ?

Well, firstly it's Megadeth not Megadeath; an anti-war name, not pro-death theme in case you were wondering.

It really depends on what album you listen to, and even more so the era, and specific song. Like most people, Dave isn't one dimensional and the content of the songs vary greatly.
For instance a major theme surrounding Megadeth's music has been politics and anti-war, long before it became "popular" to do so, and unlike many other metal bands he also sings about his personal relationships.

Dave's history is a chequered one. He was into the occult and wrote and sang some questionable songs surrounding that, but that is not what Megadeth represents; the range of the music is much more diverse than that.

Dave actually became a Christian around 2005; he was on a self-destructive path, in and out of rehab (like 20 times), and at one point in rehab after everything had else failed, with his marriage on the rocks, he gave his life to God.
So now there are certain songs from his older albums that he just doesn't sing anymore.

Not sure if his conversion rubbed off on his band mates but his friend (and bassist of Megadeth) David Ellefson is actually studying to become a minister right now I hang out at the Megadeth boards quite a bit and one of the interviews David done even inspired a guy on the boards to pick up the Bible.

I understand that it's tough not to judge a band called Megadeth and plays heavy metal but you really need to be careful and take a closer look before doing so.

As a fellow Christian Dave's stance and music has actually inspired me and helped me through some tough times. I was raised on metal it's something I relate to; and when I pick up a guitar and write songs that's how I express it, but that doesn't mean it's anti-God or bad, it's just an expression.

Trust me, you might not see it, but Dave is doing good things for Christianity. He's not the perfect model of a Christian (like many), but he interacts with a lot of people that otherwise wouldn't be exposed to the faith, and I think changes a lot of people's perceptions who think that Christians are all just stuck up, finger-pointers and judgemental.
He's just a human being with a past who found Jesus.

Their previous album is called Endgame with the title song relates to the New World Order. The current one is Th1rt3en.

Dave's autobiography is a very interesting read and I would definitely recommend it.
