Bible Study?

Post by Proinsias »

Partly inspired by something Furstentum Liechtenstein posted earlier:
Furstentum Liechtenstein wrote:Perhaps the best thing to do is to take up a verse-by-verse study of a particular chapter of Revelation together. If you both like, we could start at Revelation 1 and work our way till the end. This way we would all be on the same page.
I was wondering if there would be any enthusiasm for book by book, bit at a time, bible study. I had a quick search but couldn't find much.

Part of my renewed interest in Christianity is from reading threads like this elsewhere on the net several years ago. I'm still getting to grips with the Bible and much of what I get from this site is little snippets out of context. It might be nice for a change to let the Bible, or a certain book from it, determine the context and have a little commentary going. There's a frightening amount of Biblical knowledge hanging around this forum and I feel like much of it comes out in the context of the big issues, perhaps meaning that some of the more subtle points contained within the Bible don't get much air time.

I was thinking one of the four Gospels might be a good start, Job and Genesis would be interesting but I suspect they would quickly deviate from the narrative.

Thoughts?

I agree. The little snippets out of context probably serve more to confuse than to inform. A verse-by-verse exposition of a particular book in the Bible would be interesting and informative.

If they had a social gospel in the days of the prodigal son, somebody would have given him a bed and a sandwich and he never would have gone home.

Yip, I'm here.

I'll go with Mark if that is ok with you guys. Thinking I should start a new thread on this "Bible Study: Mark" or something like that, might be handy search wise if it does get going. I'll put a thread up soon, maybe this morning depending how long I can put off going into town to help my better half buy in the last of the Christmas presents.

I think you mean Mrs Efficient, I've been getting around to posting you a book for about three weeks, she's proud she has managed to hold off until October for sorting out Christmas and New Year, it's usually done by summer and a good chunk in the January sales.

Over here but didn't go to far, I'm planning a resurrection of the thread after the next week or two's festivities.
