Why is Porn Bad?
http://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/all ... ocial-harm
In this site it described porn as a factor that increases callousness towards women. But this article seems to be in contradiction( or at least the callousness does not amount to any real effect upon society). I need your help in describing Pornography as a social issue instead of it sometimes being a personal problem. I need any information telling the effects of viewing pornography that change attitudes in society and why the changes are bad instead of good. Assignment due tommorow I need your help.
Also in the book the social cost of pornography, Any information on that is desired if anyone owns it. Sources Sources Sources.

Re: Why is Porn Bad?
The societal impacts of pornography are astounding. Consider the following:
1. The overall "understanding" of what a woman should look like. Women in pornography are often emaciated, have had "work done" and are not realistic representations of a real woman. Men who frequent porn sites often express surprise when women do not have naturally enormous breasts, are not 100lbs etc. It also puts an unrealistic expectation on sex itself.
Men/young boys who consider pornography to be a realistic representation of the sexual experience are not only completely ignorant, but are setting themselves up for massive amounts of failure. The fact that 42% of kids 10-17 have seen porn disgusts me.
This probably contributes to the callousness, not to mention the implications of women being in slave-like situations; not being in control of what's happening to her, being at the will of one domineering or several men, etc. It's truly disgusting and reverts us to our animal tendencies.
2. I recently read an article from the UK that discussed how "porn costuming" (fishnets, lingerie, etc) are becoming mainstream fashion statements for girls as young as 14 years old. It is impacting the speed of which the sexualization of our young women is occurring.
3. Any woman who says that she's okay with their mate viewing porn is either lying or ignoring her genetic makeup. What's hilarious about the latter is that these women are often the ones with no religious beliefs and consider themselves "liberated", which would suggest they would lap up anything about evolutionary psychology behind sex. Well, the conclusions from evolutionary psychology would state that women wouldn't tolerate their mate becoming sexually aroused by another woman because it removes the opportunity for her offspring to survive. It's a very primal thing, but is in complete contention with what women who say "I'm liberated" should believe!
4. Women from Eastern European countries are often forced into the pornography "industry" to make it to "the western world". It's a "legal" form of sex trade, but countless interviews of women are available once they are "free" from it, and trust me, the testimonials are less than endearing. Any industry that supports the exploitation of vulnerable women should be looked at with a more critical eye.
If you can get your hands on "Testing the effects of sexually explicit media within a structural equation model of aggression against women"
by NM Malamuth, R Sockloskie, Annual Meeting of the American, 1991 or "Pornography and social science research" by Gross, Zillman and Bryant, Journal of Communication Vol 33 Issue 4, pages 107-114, Dec 1983 you might find some helpful support to these points. Good luck!

To sustain the belief that there is no God, atheism has to demonstrate infinite knowledge, which is tantamount to saying, “I have infinite knowledge that there is no being in existence with infinite knowledge".

Re: Why is Porn Bad?
I think that porn CAN be very unhealthy for some people.
I think that younger people that have not yet developed the correct mindset about sex and love and the opposite sex can be VERY harmed by porn.
Does porn effect ALL the view it the same way?
Of course not.
Do SOME people get effected by porn in a very negative way?
Of course some do.

Oh and lets not forget how women are purposefully mutilating their privates via surgery because of the impact of porn on the image of female genitalia:

I'll try to find it. I think I saw a link to it on a news website, not CNN but something like it.

We have an article here on it.. Basically viewing pornography is a SIN!!! Stay away from it at all costs.. It will ruin your life and others. Eventually it lead's to death...wrain62 wrote:http://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/all ... ocial-harm

Re: Why is Porn Bad?
I personally view it as a modern idol to which people have reverence for and is worshipped. What is good about the science though is it allows for people who don´t view it as immoral to have a reason to be against it. I am mentioning in the paper how it controls peoples lives, referencing heavily on the testamony based book The Porn Trap. What you said is important and as Christians not only should we condemn it, but also help people get out of it. I am specifically looking for how it negativily affects society according to changes in sexual norms, though.Gman wrote:We have an article here on it.. Basically viewing pornography is a SIN!!! Re: Why is Porn Bad?
I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for, wrain, but if you search on how pornography, is kind of like a gateway, to opening up the mind to all kinds of filth. Someone told me that many child pornographers, and pedophiles, began with an addiction to pornography. Once their mind got "numb" to porn, then they moved on to something more destructive.I am specifically looking for how it negativily affects society according to changes in sexual norms, though.

That's a good point, Rick. Eventually, one becomes so desensitized, they need "more and more" of a thrill. I think witnessing violence is the same thing. I think it's kinda the same with drugs. Over time, one doesn't get the same "high", from the same drug, that used to get them high.StMonicaGuideMe wrote:That's a good point, Rick. Re: Why is Porn Bad?
A christian friend of mine told me that the moment porn is allowed in your home it opens up the door for the devil and his demons and gives them the legal right to come in and sup with the person.
I also watched a Christian Vid and it was along the same lines as what my friend had said-Although it was an enactment it showed all those really ugly demons that looked like the grim reaper surrounding the guy and his computer and they were just having a merry old time with this guy-God's word warns us not to give place to the devil. If this guy could have seen in the spiritual world, he would have seen them dancing all around him and squealing in joy that they had the right to this person's life.
I read a story about a little girl who had become sick and the doctor's could not figure out what was wrong with her-Come to find out her father was addicted to porn and had been for quite some time-
After, the porn was alleviated out of their home the little girl recovered from that sickness- The devil has to operate legally.....and something like porn was all it took.
