Canadian Liberals are back in action AGAIN!!!
Re: Canadian Liberals are back in action AGAIN!!!
Looks like we can safely predict that gay marriage will remain a reality in Canada except Alberta of course.
Maybe you Albertans should secede from the union.

It's official
Canada 4th Nation to Legalize Gay Marriage
By ROB GILLIES, Associated Press Writer

TORONTO - Canada legalized gay marriage Wednesday, becoming the world's fourth nation to grant full legal rights to same-sex couples.
Supreme Court Chief Justice Beverley McLachlin signed the legislation making it law, hours after it was approved by the Senate late Tuesday night despite strong opposition from Conservatives and religious leaders.
The bill grants same-sex couples legal rights equal to those in traditional unions between a man and a woman, something already legal in eight of Canada's 10 provinces and in two of its three territories.
The legislation drafted by Prime Minister Paul Martin's minority Liberal Party government easily passed the Senate, which essentially rubber stamps any bill already passed by the House of Commons, which passed it late last month.
The Netherlands, Belgium and Spain are the only other nations that allow gay marriage nationwide.

No, actually, there is no majority party - ie: no party that has over half the seats in the House of Commons. It's much like your House of Representatives, except with 4 major parties you can get them all below 50%. In that case, multiple parties must work together to pass laws. In this case the socialist/communist NDP party teamed up with the usually immoral/corrupt Liberals... Ironically the Quebec party (who you'd think would be predominantly enforcing Catholic morality) also supported the law, so the Conservatives had no power to do anything about it.ochotseat wrote:So the minority party can overrule the majority party? What a bizarre form of government Canada has!
In the end though, it's not the government's fault. Rather, it's the people of a nation who elected the government who are to blame. It's the people in Eastern Canada who are betraying their heritage and their beliefs. Maybe the rest of us are to blame for allowing their hearts to stray so far from God. One thing is for sure: If we're going to right this ship, it will have to be done in the form of a revival among the people; our government is only reflecting the will of a perverse population.
It shouldn't be too suprising, in a province (Ontario) that about 5 years ago legalized public nudity, and who has hardcore pornography on a regular movie network nightly after 11:30 pm.
Yes, but we only have two major parties in power, and the Republicans have a slight edge.Felgar wrote: It's much like your House of Representatives
Doesn't seem as effective as a two party system, which doesn't permit a coalition to overtake one party like that.except with 4 major parties you can get them all below 50%. Are you serious? Can you post some proof? Because it's hard to believe that the Canadian people will tolerate that. I don't think the Dutch have even gone that far.
Maybe the Canadian conservatives should flee to America as political refugees. The Republicans can always use new blood.and who has hardcore pornography on a regular movie network nightly after 11:30 pm.

Yeah, thanks to a court decision back in 1996 I guess it was. It doesn't seem long ago really. The reader's digest version:ochotseat wrote:It shouldn't be too suprising, in a province (Ontario) that about 5 years ago legalized public nudity

LOL.. No doubt. I actually honestly think that we should be fighting for much greater provincial jurisdiction of power (your states have much, much more autonomy) or else actually be considering seperating. I never thought I would say that, only a mere 5 years ago.ochotseat wrote:Maybe the Canadian conservatives should flee to America as political refugees. That case talks about topless nudity, not complete nakedness.Felgar wrote: Yeah, thanks to a court decision back in 1996 I guess it was. It doesn't seem long ago really. The reader's digest version:

Both our countries are federalist, but many Western countries, including Canada, have parliamentary governments. On the other side, the U.S. has a presidential form of government, which seems to be more democratic.LOL.. No doubt. Wait Wait Wait Felgar....Canadians have a commy party? A legit party whose aim is to destroy all forms of government (which will of course lead to anarchy).

An atheist can't find God for the same reason a criminal can't find a police officer.
You need to start asking out girls so that you can get used to the rejections.

Actually NDP is not the Real Commy Party. There is actually one in Vancouver! Well at least there was a person Proudly displaying a Sign on his Front Lawn .AttentionKMartShoppers wrote:Wait Wait Wait Felgar....Canadians have a commy party? As bizzt said, they are not actually communist. They are very socialist, so it's hyperbole to refer to them as communist. If they had their way, Canada would have very similar systems to Sweden... Basically a welfare state.AttentionKMartShoppers wrote:Wait Wait Wait Felgar....Canadians have a commy party? According to Fel's link, topless nudity is legal in Toronto.bizzt wrote:

They should hear about how socialist policies are failing in Western Europe.Felgar wrote: If they had their way, Canada would have very similar systems to Sweden... Basically a welfare state.
