A sincere question from a friend

Post by Protestant »

He wants to know why the Bible contradicts itself in every manner. I know this may not seem like a very serious question, but for the sake of trying to guide him I wish to know an accurate response to it.

We will answer that as soon as you answer this question: When did your friend stop beating his or her spouse?
Let us proclaim the mystery of our faith: Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come again.

Lord I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed.

Well, he must know everything about the Bible since he knows it contradicts itself in every manner. Can he at least provide a worthwhile question? It's very closed-minded, since it's worded as if it's a fact that the Bible contradicts itself left and right and we must answer the question accordingly. If I asked this friend of yours "why are you wrong?" he's probably question my own ability to provide a good question, and might reply "I'm not!" So, that's how I'll answer his question.

Why does the Bible contradict itself in every manner?
It doesn't.

If he wants an answer, he'll need to provide a real question.

As the other posts indicate, this isn't a real question. Its leading, loaded, argumentative, and its clear from the question that the questioner isn't interested in a real answer.

The above posters are quite right--it is a heavily loaded question. I suggest you ask your friend for some examples of the contradictions he believes exist so that we can answer them. Unfortunately, I think it rather unlikely that anyone willing to claim the Bible "contradicts itself in every manner" is really interested in dealing with specifics or receiving answers. Still, we are here if a more detailed and less question-begging inquiry from your friend is forthcoming and will be glad to any answer legitimate objections he may have, if possible.

I know it's a very arrogant question but I partly said that on purpose. Going to ask him again to give some examples.

That question is like me asking why your friend is an idiot.
Why?
Because it is asking you to explain a statement I made that has no fact to it ( your friend being an idiot).
First off, when I make a statement like that, it falls on me to PROVE that your friend is an idiot, after I do that, then you, IF you are qualified to answer that question, can try to BUT until I prove what that question implies, it isn't even a question really, its more of a interrogative opinion at best.
