Hard work

Post by 1over137 »

“Genius is 1% talent and 99% percent hard work...”
―- Albert Einstein

"It's not that I'm so smart, it's just that I stay with problems longer."
-- Albert Einstein

“Continuous effort - not strength or intelligence - is the key to unlocking our potential”
-- Winston Churchill

"Character is more important than intelligence for success."
-- Beaux, Gilberte

"The three great essentials to achieve anything worth while are, first, hard work; second, stick-to-itiveness; third, common sense."
-- Thomas Edison

"Genius is one percent inspiration and ninety-nine percent perspiration.”
-- Thomas Edison

"The only question to ask yourself is how much are you willing to sacrifice to achieve this success?"
--Larry Flynt

"A dream doesn't become reality through magic; it takes sweat, determination and hard work."
-- Colin Powell

That's how I achieved my PhD. I am not extremely smart. So guys (and you Reactionary) sweat and you can achieve great results.
But examine everything carefully; hold fast to that which is good.
-- 1 Thessalonians 5:21

For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.
-- Philippians 1:6

I was making a joke when I said that you and Reactionary were simple minded. J-O-K-E, something said or done to provoke amusement or laughter.

You know what the true mark of a genius is? Not knowing you are one (Hana) .
Let us proclaim the mystery of our faith: Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come again.

Lord I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed.

Byblos, according to some tests Hana has taken, she's not quite at the genius level. It seems she's merely "gifted".(one small step below genius).

Here's my favorite "hard work" quote:

"Hard work pays off in the future. Laziness pays off NOW!"
I'm not sure who said it, but that's how I live my life...one nap at a time.

Hard work is crucial BUT it is incorrect to give the impression that "all it takes is hard work", ask any guy that puts in full days of training for years, sacrifices everything and never makes it to the "bigs" or the guy that works his ass off at work, only to see his promotion given to someone the boss "likes better".
I could go on, but the point is that we have to be true to the reality that we live in.
Hard work is only part of the equation ( a very important part) and we must realize that we may never see the eternal results for our hard work, BUT we can KNOW the internal satisfaction of KNOWING we put in that hard work.

I haven't noticed you calling me simple minded.
Yes, I took IQ tests and am slightly above average.
I still am now the same weight now.

Hana, I believe if you took an iq test that wasn't biased towards English speaking people, you'd see your iq isn't slightly above average. Your iq would more likely be in the gifted/genius range. That iq test that you had an average score on, had questions dealing with grammar, word meanings, and word comparisons in ENGLISH. If that test were in your first language, Slobovian, you would have scored much higher.

Who knows, how is it with my IQ.

By the way, when I was at high school (gymnasium) there was one boy who was more intelligent - quicker in understanding. But he was lazy and I was dilligent. My math teacher predicted that at the end of the high school I will overtake him. And so it really happened. By the way, from my class room I am the one who reached the highest.
(And at the university I was the only one from my school year with red diploma in physics.)

Hana, receiving that diploma in physics, involved a lot of hard work on your part, I'm sure. But we are talking about physics here, not adding fractions. I could study physics for 18 hours a day, for years, and I bet I still wouldn't understand half of what you understand about it. You were born with a gift of high intelligence, and you are a hard worker. Those two things usually help lead you to be successful in whatever you choose to do.

Have you tried reading the Feynman lectures in physics? Feynman is an excellent explainer. And also very funny.

No. Sorry Hana. I'm afraid my head would explode.
