Why do many scientists support TOE ?

Here's a poll primarily for those who do not believe in TOE. Certainly most scientists and textbooks currently state a belief in TOE. Why ?

Simply because it is currently the most probably explanation that does not require acceptance of a higher power.

The same reason why geocentrism was accepted, because it fit the observations made closely, and those observations were made with primitive techniques.

The same thing is happening with evolution, when it was first proposed there were no tools to analyze the evidence in detail, now that we have more advanced tools the consistancy of evolution is eroding. People don't want to accept it though, evolution in it's current form isn't adequate, and it's following the same course as geocentrism, which was modified and modified to fit inreasingly contradictory observations.

It's only a matter of time until a superior theory comes along.
