Who is Christ?

Post by luigi »

"And he said, Take heed that ye be not deceived: for many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and the time draweth near: go ye not therefore after them." (Luke 21:8)

As we are now in the last days; where are the many who shall come calling themselves Christ?

While Luke 21:8 can be interpreted representing many people claiming themselves Messiah's; I more feel its meaning people providing erroneous interpretations on the Lord Jesus' claims.

In which case, taking heed to not be deceived would mean being wary of the many false interpretations out there on what verses from the Bible represent.

1 John 4:1 describes this as: "Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world."

We've been in the last days for 2013 years or so. There have been many false messiahs during that time. Closer to our time, here is a short (and very incomplete list) of modern false messiahs:

1. Sun Myung Moon, Unification Church guru and messiah.
2. Mitsuo Matayoshi, who calls himself, ''The only God Mitsuyo Matayoshi Jesus Christ''.
3. Yahweh ben Yahweh, (literally, God Son of God).
4. Rebbe Menachem Schneerson, deceased messiah.
5. Rael, head of a UFO cult.
6. Reverend Major Jealous Divine, a.k.a. Father Divine.
7. Baha'u'llah, deceased messiah and founder of the Baha'i faith.

And here is a coming false messiah: the Mahdi, a man Muslims have been expecting and think will come soon.

Nope. ''taking heed not to be deceived'' means taking care not to be deceived by false messiahs. The Bible says what it means. No Crystal ball is needed.

I think that it is also a warning about all those "doomsday" cults and denominations that keep saying that the "end is near" or the end will come as so-and-so time.
Christ's words on that were quite clear: No one knows, it will come when no one expects it and perhaps more strongly:

ACTS 1:6-7

6 So when they had come together, they were asking Him, saying, “Lord, is it at this time You are restoring the kingdom to Israel?” 7 He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or epochs which the Father has fixed by His own authority;

While the Bible does warn against false teachers, the context of Luke 21:8 focuses on false christs. Of course, a false messiah will promote false teaching but I think it is important to show believers that the Bible is easy to understand and to not look for ''hidden'' meanings. There are no ''hidden'' meanings; everything is out in the open and the Holy Spirit will help one see what is plain to the mature believer.

I must be getting old. In the list I gave of false Messiahs, I forgot to include my two favorite fakes! Here they are:

My Number 2 Favorite Fake Messiah:
The Dalaï Lama! Every pagan loves this guy! Even Christians love him!...he's just like Jesus! ...humble, meek, and fighting a losing battle against China! Powerful world leaders want to have their photo taken with this guy! How can someone bound for Hell not love the Dalaï Lama?!

My Number One Favorite fake Messiah: The God From Wisconsin: Harold Klemp! Yes, unbelievers! God was born in Wisconsin, USA, and His name is Harold Klemp! Don't believe me? ...look Him up! I really like Harold because you have to be an even bigger fruitcake to believe in Harold Klemp than in any of the other false messiahs.

I guess I just like fruitcake...

FL, it's HAROLD Klemp. You dropped the ball on that one.

I dare anyone to read the Wikipedia link while keeping a straight face. I lol'd at least 3 times.

And FYI, you forgot Jim Jones. ;) You could've had Kool-Aid with your fruitcake.

You are right, again! (I'm really losing it...) I've edited my post with Gawd's correct name. Thanks.

I know a lady who has Harold as Gawd, and I've met others like her in the course of my job. They are easy to spot because they have pictures of Harold stuck here and there. Also, there is an Eckankar temple 3 blocks away from my place...just next to a mosque. This place is Fruitcake Central!

Your are right about Jim Jones. He was another messiah, like David Koresh. The list of messiahs is actually quite long and, if we were to list them all, we would see that Jesus' prophecy of many false messiahs was exact.

In the sense of having elicited great hope and admiration, yes! President Obama is a type of messiah.

Steven Harper is the government leader of a third-rate Western nation. I'm sure you had to look his name up on Google because no one knows the name of the leaders of third-rate Western nations (like Australia, Canada & New Zealand, for example) but everyone knows the Messiah of the ''Free'' World, Prez. Obama.

Anyway, Steven Harper - to his credit - is a Christian and a supporter of Israel, unlike your ''messiah'' in office, or that atheist PM in Australia...
