Scripture out of context

Post by RickD »

Outside a transmission shop in my town, is a sign that reads, "2 Chronicles 7:14". And today, I saw a truck with, "2 Chron 7:14" on the top of its windshield. This got me thinking. Which bible verse is used out of context the most?
John 5:24
24 “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life.

Mt 16:18

If they had a social gospel in the days of the prodigal son, somebody would have given him a bed and a sandwich and he never would have gone home.

that's easy either Jeremiah 29:11 or Philippians 4:13!

And pretty much anything from the Sermon on the Mount . . . ;)

And that, brothers and sisters, is the kind of foolishness you get people who insist on denying biblical theism. A good illustration of any as the length people will go to avoid acknowledging basic truths.

Yeppers! "Judge not that ye be not judged," would have to be high on the list (if there were such a list).

I subscribe to Biblical Arcaeology Review, http://www.biblicalarchaeology.org Every month, Leonard J. Greenspoon writes a column entitled The Bible in the News where he scours the world's media for Bible verses used out of context.

Entertaining!

How do you take Genesis 1:1-31 out of context? I can see how you can disagree with someone's interpretation of the passage, but out of context . . .

Are you kidding? There's nothing quite like the feeling of floating in space while simultaneously feeling that your eyelids weigh 300lbs while simultaneously feeling nothing, all while knowing you are thinking something but not quite sure what it is.
