I love this forum, blasphemy, chocolate and toilet seats, I was worried I'd have to lose my sense of humour after becoming a Christian (not to mention learn to like John Denver instead of Nine Inch Nails).

I clicked into this one because I had been pondering about what could be unforgiveable, had I already blasphemed against the HS when I was an atheist and so already been damned beyond redemption? If so I have no reason to have a conscience or moral values - and yet I do. I used to think I was a pretty good person and even though I didn't believe in God or any of the Scriptures I might be ok if it turned out I was wrong.... :pound: Wrong! :crying: y[-o<

So, I asked a couple of pastors and ministers from different churches and they had similar views to one another, that once the Holy Spirit is in you and you have truly accepted that Christs sacrifice and resurrection was for you it is almost impossible to blaspheme - but watch out if you do! "And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God." Luke 9:62

There is a difference between saying words against something in which you don't believe up until you DO believe it and in denying the existence of God after being saved (then maybe you were not really saved :? ).

Another point of view is that those who accused Christ of being Satan when he performed miracles were blaspheming against the Holy Spirit and those in the present day who refuse to accept the truth of His existence are as bad as the Pharisees and Scribes who should have known better. So blaspheming is synonymous with rejection and we already know that we must wholeheartedly believe in Christ our Saviour to be saved.

I think it is all part of the call to us to remain steadfast in our faith and continue to call on His name even though we may be persecuted and even die because of our belief. Will you, under duress or torture, renounce your God or will you die having his name on your lips, knowing you will have eternal life.

Its a no brainer when I think of it that way.

Love

Also basically if you are worried that you have commited the unforgiveable sin against the Holy Spirit - then you have not. People who have commited that sin - do not care.

One of my favourite sinners, Charles Bukowski wrote “If you're losing your soul and you know it, then you've still got a soul left to lose” .

I do hope he was saved in the end y[-o<

My personal view is that Jesus wasn't saying that God 'can't or 'won't' forgive blaspheming the HS, but that the people who truly commit this sin are so deep in unbelief that they will never change their ways. Basically, I think Christ is saying that He would forgive if those people would ever ask, but the problem is they've driven themselves too deep to ever ask.
