This is why relics were often "big business" in centuries past. Everyone had the cup of Christ or a piece of his cross. And great power was often attributed to such items. But extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. Speculation is rather worthless. However, I would say that The Shroud of Turin is in a whole other category and evidence for its authenticity appears to be quite compelling. You see, any common hack can produce an old cup or small bit of wood. And why create a Shroud of such complexity when simple relics were selling quite well, fooling substantial numbers of those desperate to obtain a true relic?
