My Wonderful Goverment-Run Healthcare
With all the negativity about Obama-care....I think it is time for folks to get another side of the story....from someone who is actually on U.S. government run health care...via my State.
At 53, I was without health insurance for my whole life...I managed to get by with low-income community clinics..(horrible)...I even crossed the border into Mexico...(dangerous)...in times of severe pain and misery; I was forced to use the E.R. (more horrible)...and this has been the Republican plan for the uninsured for decades now.
The message of the Republican platform has been and still is: I am rich.....You should be too...USA health care is #1... and doesn't need any changes....If you can't afford health insurance...too bad.....go to the E.R..
The message of the Democratic platform has been and still is : We would rather have universal Medi-care not-for profit health coverage....but we will compromise with whatever we can force out of the other party of the reactionary, liberalphobes...and see what we come up with....which is called Romney-care/Obama-Care.
What does health care look like when one has a serious health crisis and they don't have insurance? People are forced to go to a hospital. Maybe a hospital in the Los Angeles area; where you must line up and pass an airport-style security clearance with x-rays...before you enter a waiting room with literally hundreds of people waiting....Oh, about eight hours average....on a slow day. Unless they see blood or you can't breathe...your chances of being admitted to a hospital stay is slim.
Then wait for the bill....that plunges many into home and food insecurity; and/or bankruptcy.
Without health insurance, I had to pay the full amount for MRIs, medications, anesthesia, etc. with my credit card. Thank the Lord..I had good credit...the cards, and a decent limit...otherwise I would have been homeless and bankrupt.....This is all courtesy of the failed, fear-mongering, regressive policies of the merciless on the radical right.
With the help of financial aid...I was still over $6,000 in debt....with no job, and disabled...and was refused needed surgery. The "death panels"...that the right made up as a fear-mongering media blitz....was just a lie; as well as the typical lying, hyperbole that oozes from their overpaid media pundits.
The real death panel...is my experience of going to a hospital with acute Sciatica...very painful....needing immediate care; you cannot walk, stand, or sit, nor sleep...and they literally kicked a 52 year old disabled man to the curb...
after falsely accusing me of "drug seeking"...the most horrible nightmare.
Almost every country in the world would have treated me and admitted me into a hospital....but U.S. patients do not have the rights to request MRI's....unless the god-like U.S. doctors; who never make mistakes; think that you are worthy....Yes my friend...the death panels are only for the uninsured.
----
Now I will tell you my story; briefly of what it looks like to be on government health care...that I acquired recently on 10/30/2013... I couldn't be happier with
the care I have received.....Medicare/Medicaid works very well...it just needs to be reformed.
First...I was granted disability benefits....no thanks to the ruthless right.
Second I was reimbursed thousands for my medical payments.....no thanks to the ruthless right.
Third...I have had very good "Standard Plus" health and dental insurance... I like my doctor...He even works on Saturday! Once I had a bad migraine....and I was able to see my doctor
...that very afternoon....
It's about time...that more Christians....actually obey what Romans 13...and James 3 teaches....and oppose the spreading of the filthy garbage of misinformation and rumor
for purely personal , partisan reasons....and NOT for Christ's Name.
Remember...Medicare for all is the goal....
Why should health care have any different funding.... than the U.S. military? Should we have for-profit .....war insurance? When the firefighters put out your house fire...should you get a $45,000 bill? It's the same illogical conclusion.
Bottom line.....the Right wanted a dinosaur (Romney-care)....and baby that's what we've got ... We have reaped what was sown.....
Any questions?...Any answers?...seen a death panel lately?

Jcgood,
You've had no insurance your whole life. All 53 years, correct? You do realize there have been democratic administrations during your life without insurance, don't you? When those left leaning administrations were in place, were you ranting against them?

Re: My Wonderful Goverment-Run Healthcare
Here's the thing: Healthcare DOES need reforming. As presently entrenched, the industry has no incentives to keep cost down. But Obamacare is NOT the solution. Yes, there are people who truly need and have no way of paying for healthcare. But the solution is NOT to insure EVERYONE for EVERYTHING. Young people don't need to have insurance for every time someone stubs their toe. And young people are not willing to pay in. What you do need is a hybrid that is somewhere in between, but doesn't try to be all things to all people. It will truly bankrupt us - especially small business. There simply isn't enough money to run this per Obamacare.
And to try to portray this as the evil, heartless, money-grubbing Republicans vs. the hearts-of-gold Democrats is so delusional it's ridiculous. Do you have any idea how many hard-working, blue-collar people have LONG been Republicans. Especially in across the South, middle class and lower/middle income people have been Republicans. Rich? Heartless? Get a clue!

Yes...I was opposing the democrats....in many ways...RickD wrote:Jcgood,

The Clintons.....missed an opportunity to quell the insanity of the housing market.....at a time when unemployment in prosperous San Diego county was less than 4%...
and most California Coastal /Urban Real Estate was climbing 18% + a year for at least a decade ...on top of the already high purchase price.
....yet labor for the average worker was flattening out......
A progressive federal property tax ....would have saved this country from at least 50% of their economic woes....but nobody would listen to me then....and not many are ready to hear now.
Taxes are neutral (neither good or bad) tools...to curb wild markets and raise revenue...not punitive...as many erroneously believe and report.
My advice to the partisan Republican side of the aisle....let the Democrats have their way....and then if the policies fail....then the majority of people might eventually listen to that side.
The Battle is the Lord's....but the reactionary right ...seems to think..."shutting down government"...was a wise/good thing....NOT!
President-elect Obama over-promised many things that cannot be delivered in the U.S. system. Congress has much more power over domestic policies than the Executive
Branch. Unfortunately..most people have been duped by well-intentioned speeches; and the false information that the branches of U.S. government are.."equal"...and "check power".
Really?
In case you haven't noticed....my non-partisan approach is attacking the root of the problems...The inapt/inept U.S constitution that foolishly grants....WAY TOO MUCH
power to inapt /inept Congress....I stand with few scattered voices crying in the wilderness....
I don't care ...Who you put in the White House.....a third grader ..with a little coaching....could do a better job than all the 1981 - present U.S Presidents...
I perceive that you still think that I am a partisan hack...and that's OK....
The more you get to know me....the less partisan ...I hopefully will appear.....

.....That's why it HAS to be government run.....and reformed. If you come in for a band-aid....in a for profit system...what's the incentive to turn that person away?...The doc's bill is ...$285...not bad for 5 minutes eh?Philip wrote:Here's the thing: Healthcare DOES need reforming. Your idea of "everything" by demand covered philip is a delusion. I have been on my govt. care for only 3 months...and I was already denied surgery, medication, MRI, etc...that the law does not provide by demand......and there are procedures and tests...that must be done...before any approval.
The Doctors that are ignorant of Oregon Law....that is the problem that needs to be addressed...
...but since my trust is in The Lord....I am confident in all these matters in Him.....
First....I wrote.."Republican PLATFORM"...ie...affluent/wealthy candidates.....
It is you that brought voters into it....but since you do....
....There may be Republican blue collars......that IMO...aren't represented very well in labor and health care....by either side of the aisle.
Unfortunately...this is one issue ..that I strongly assert....the left has been consistently wise in...
There are plenty of policies from the left that I strongly oppose......and yes there are "limousine liberals"..as well
....but on a Christian site....who is opposing the right...and the left?...except for non-partisans.........

Housing nominee Mel Watt helped create the subprime crisis
Mel Watt, President Obama’s nominee for director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency, pushed government programs to help welfare recipients buy homes during the creation of the subprime mortgage bubble.
Watt, a 20-year Member of Congress from North Carolina’s 12th district, also had a hand in programs allowing borrowers with poor credit to buy homes with no down payment. The American financial system was subsequently destroyed when millions of bad borrowers defaulted on their loans, setting off a market crash that wiped out nearly 40 percent of the net worth of Americans.
In 2002, Watt teamed up with Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae, Bank of America, BB&T, and UJAMMA Inc., to announce Pathways to Homeownership, a pilot initiative designed to give home loans to welfare recipients.
Many of those risky loans ultimately led to the housing bubble and financial crisis. Charlotte was among the hardest-hit areas of the country. The 6.09 percent foreclosure rate for the North Carolina city was more than double the national average of 2.85 percent, according to the Charlotte Observer. CNN.com listed Charlotte number five of the hardest hit foreclosure hotspots in America in 2011.

New Study Finds Democrats Fully to Blame for Subprime Mortgage Crisis that Caused 2008 Financial Disaster

Note Disclaimer: it was democrats that built up the KKK - they did not found it as the article says, however, members of the Democrat Party did and history shows that the Democratic Party was racist till being taken over by the real Left in the USA around 1968 thru approx 1977... The Left used the racism of the Dem Party and the Vietnam war to change it into a socialist Democrat Party Model for social change or fundamental transformation of America. The Article should be read as democrat party helped build the KKK...This was common knowledge when I was growing up in the 1960's and 1970's.Why Martin Luther King Was Republican?
It should come as no surprise that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was a Republican. In that era, almost all black Americans were Republicans. Why? From its founding in 1854 as the anti-slavery party until today, the Republican Party has championed freedom and civil rights for blacks. And as one pundit so succinctly stated, the Democrat Party is as it always has been, the party of the four S's: slavery, secession, segregation and now socialism.
It was the Democrats who fought to keep blacks in slavery and passed the discriminatory Black Codes and Jim Crow laws. The Democrats started the Ku Klux Klan to lynch and terrorize blacks. The Democrats fought to prevent the passage of every civil rights law beginning with the civil rights laws of the 1860s, and continuing with the civil rights laws of the 1950s and 1960s.
Historical fact: Southern Democrat's and founding support of KKK and segregation policies

Re: My Wonderful Goverment-Run Healthcare
ENOUGH! Enough of all of this yackety-yacking and bickering over POLITICAL solutions and histories! There is very little use in debating political answers to things that can only and ultimately be solved spiritually and in embracing God's values through Jesus. In America, BOTH parties have enough terrible decisions and policies, it's merely been a matter of whom and which, and at which point in our history such negative things have been embraced and pushed. Trying to sanitize the record of ANY political party or group whilst also demonizing their opposition is pointless.
Continuously referencing and debating the HISTORY of various political entities' policies and actions - especially making such things the FOCUS of this forum seems rather pointless. We are not going to change our society or the world around it with politics. And we're ESPECIALLY not going to do it through ANY party led by people who are not Christians or seeking God and the counsel of His Word for insights and guidance. And the last time I checked, ALL major (and minor) parties in America and around the world are mostly led and populated by NON-Christians. So what does that tell us about where such people are leading us and how clueless they will remain until they seek the Lord and HIS solutions? And when we speak of "government" solutions - that is no magic entity, as government is merely representative and reflective of the majority opinions of citizens - at least in countries and places that have a vote. Yes, we have gatekeepers and kingmakers behind the scenes, but in a quasi-democracy like the U.S., such people still are ultimately impacted by majority public opinion and vote. So, WE, the citizens, are ultimately the government, even if we don't directly control much of it. And, oh, how few of our citizens are Christians and striving to follow God's guidance?
My main point is that ANYONE who wants to keep ongoing, intensely political discussions about policies, failures, blaming this and that entity/party about past histories of failure and ineptness - these are really not productive discussions that are in line with the state purposes of this forum. Keeping such a focus of overtly political issues will only be divisive. NEVER forget that political divisiveness is one of the devil's favorite tools! I've seen it work well just about everywhere - this forum included.

Re: My Wonderful Goverment-Run Healthcare
Yes, that is correct. But, but, but ... this is a politics forum, is it not?.
But I'm merely addressing what I see as a devolvement into an extreme focus of politics, by SOME - Christians - on this forum, that are veering TOO far into political concerns and solutions and not remaining mindful of their ultimate futility - if not also connected to spiritual concerns and God's guidance. Mostly meaning that when CHRISTIANS focus too heavily upon politics (whatever political persuasion or tradition one follows) as a means of lasting, positive changes in our society and its political structures, then we are going off track. And we should remember that in discussions on this forum. I've been guilty of this as well. It's not that we shouldn't discuss politics and policies - we can and we should. But the focus of our discussions, as Christians, should always be in the context of how God views things. I'm not saying everyone here hasn't been mindful of this. But recently, I think what I'm reminding people of is the dangers of getting too extremely focused on political solutions and blame. I"m as political an animal as anyone. And I, myself, must always keep this in mind. Especially whenever dealing with others who don't share my political views or non-Christians. It's just something that welled up in me this morning.
