Why does God let satan have nearly all human souls?

Well I don't think I mentioned it but I should have since it is rather self explanatory and the verse is used ad nauseum in local hell, fire brimestone, and legalistic churches in my area and that is the verse about "narrow is the way and board is the way that leads to destruction and many go that way. That verse I think more than others is used by pastors and believers to make a case for heaven being mostly empty and hell being overly full. But I don't know, I guess I let these things bother me way too much, it must be a sign of aging. Because after all, tomorrow is my birthday. :/
