So would it be fair to say, some of the things men said in the bible (such as this by Paul) is to be taken in context of what they were dealing with at that moment in time and need not be applied literally to us today?

Yes, that would be a good way to put it. One must also remember that Christians often take out lessons from within tgese writings. For personal faith, sure one can even see long hair as shameful, but it would be based on a wrong reading of the text...so while for personal standard its ok as it doesn't hurt anyone, but this can't be taught objectively. Its no command nor rule. Violating this doesn't affect our bond with god....Kenny wrote:So would it be fair to say, some of the things men said in the bible (such as this by Paul) is to be taken in context of what they were dealing with at that moment in time and need not be applied literally to us today?

But on the other hand, moral guidelines of Christ are hard to be disputed, even if you read them in context and apply today. On that front even though the text doesn't address us directly, it still shows a far more objective guideline since the commandments of Christ are the basis of faith and are supposed to be followed.
It would be a blessing if they missed the cairns and got lost on the way back. Or if
the Thing on the ice got them tonight.
I could only turn and stare in horror at the chief surgeon.

And with that we went below to the flame-flickering Darkness of the lower deck
and to a cold almost the equal of the Dante-esque Ninth Circle Arctic Night
without.

Personally, I like to think He did, because I like long hair.
What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid. - Romans 6:15
